It's all covered with a fairly thick piece of foam on top, so it's not as obvious as you'd expect. If you have both sides relatively high and near the same level, you don't notice the divider at all. If both sides were relatively low, you'd notice it a lot. My wife usually has hers at around 60, and I have mine around 45. When we first got it, I noticed the seam a bit when rolling from one side to another, but these days I don't really notice it at all.

That said, the bed definitely does make you feel like there's an "ideal" area on each side since the closer you are to the edges of each air mattress, the more you are likely to feel like you'll roll to the center. That's exaggerating quite a bit, but if you're the type to cuddle all night, you'd probably be better off with a bed that isn't divided by side.
