Alex Smith's 2nd year looks alot like Trent Green's 2nd yr w/Chiefs

stat-wise and Because we are the Chiefs and DKTM

Trent Green 2002 (32 years old)
287/470 - 61.1% 3,690 yards 26 TDs 13 INTs

Alex Smith 2014 (30 years old)
303/464 - 65.3% 3,265 yards 18 TDs 6 INTs

Well sans the TDs but Green only had 17 in 2001 and Smith had 23 in 2013.

Replace Charles with Holmes and you've got Trent Green and CP is ready to put him in the HOF

Why?

Because Chiefs.

ALL left TDs on the field this season - fact. It wasn't because Smith didn't throw to them - it's because they are terrible and don't catch. Or look over their shoulder and step out of bounds instead of showing field awareness and breaking to the end zone...

But mostly because they just dropped the chalupa. Repeatedly.
Smith himself left more TDs on the field than any of his receivers. His uber-conservative avoidance of any downfield attempts is not a response to a problem, it's systemic of his entire career. And it's always blamed on everybody but the guy actually responsible for it. Namely him. Bring in Calvin Johnson and Julien Edelman and he's still throwing for 3500 yards.

It's like when Matt Cassel stepped in for Tom Brady for a year. Moss and Welker on the field and he throws for 3600 yards. Because that's just who he is. And the same is true for Alex Smith. He is who he is, and blaming it on Bowe, in particular, is a disservice to a guy who not only should by all rights be posting 1200 yard seasons, but who we should love more right about now because he's totally being the team guy and not throwing tantrums left and right because his quarterback isn't getting him the ball - like the diva that so many people were saying he was back when he was double-thumbing his back and talking about the Bowe Show.

But hey, Bowe hate has been a favorite pasttime of some for years, no reason to change now.

I totally understand what most everyone is saying ... but, if not Smith, then who?

Who?

Derek Carr ****ing sucks everyone. Teddy Bridgewater? Ok, maybe. Maybe. But it's not like he's some lock and also, what's his ceiling? Franchise QB? Yeah, don't think so.

and if we did draft these guys ... did you want them to play this year? You really think either one of these dipshits would have excelled behind the worst offensive line I've ever seen in the history of watching the Chiefs?

I am just curious ...

It's not like Reid or Dorsey has passed on 1 QB that, to me, looks like they'll ever amount to jack shit in the NFL.

...MAYBE Bridgewater.

Geno Smith?

Give me a ****ing break.

Alex Smith is in the 12-18 range.

He absolutely is in the same tier as Joe Flacco, Matt Stafford and Andy Dalton. Absolutely.

Is that something that I'm content with? **** no. I think Alex Smith is boring. I was bored watching Alex Smith never take a single risk.

But Joe Flacco and Matt Stafford behind that offensive line? Yeah. 4 wins. Maybe. It would have been awful.

Anybody who still thinks Green and Smith are the same guy isn't even worth the energy it takes to type a response at this point. I'm out.

What has Alex ever done in his career to justify passing on guys that were graded as top 10 picks in the draft at the QB position?

and I'd absolutely, 100% rather have Alex Smith for 2 2nds over Derek Carr. Anyone who watched Derek Carr this year and wants to try and tell me he'll be a good NFL starting QB, or even a guy who starts more than another year ... should stop watching football.

That dude has NO chance.

Then why does he drop so many balls that hit him in the hands??

He's a decent #2, and if he was in Green Bay he would be #3 behind Nelson and Cobb. If he's in Detroit, he's #3 behind Tate and Johnson. If he's in Chicago, he's #3 behind Marshall and Jeffreys, if he's in Washington, he's #3 behind Jackson and Garcon; if he's in San Fran, he's probably #3 behind Boldin and Crabtree, in Jacksonville, he might be #2, behind one of their younger, faster, more talented youngsters - get the picture??

I addressed this point in the did, does, always will suck thread.

It's not just that they could have/should have gotten someone better. It's that they could have expended FAR fewer resources to get a similar QB (Carson Palmer, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Kyle Orton, to name three guys who put up very similar figures as Alex Smith this season).

Maybe they win 10 games last year and 7 games this year with those guys at the helm instead, but that's not a big deal. The team also would have had the benefit of two more high-round, premium talent picks (one basically a first-round pick), which probably would have helped.

Alex Smith?

Or Kyle Orton + Keenan Allen + Gabe Jackson?

Alex Smith is a stop-gap, whether his fanbois and the Chiefs front office realize it or not. There were cheaper options out there.

Hootie, it is obvious that you and I disagree immensely on Alex.....but can you please elaborate on why you feel that a QB with a Superbowl ring, a QB who has never missed the playoffs in his entire career while compiling better stats than Alex in the process, and a 26 year old QB who has averaged 28 touchdowns and almost 4,800 passing yards a year for the past 4 years are on the same tier as Alex?

Seriously. I am not trying to be a dick. I just seriously cannot even begin to fathom your opinion.

That playoff win where he outdueled Drew Brees a couple years ago was pretty tantalizing.
