Alex Smith's 2nd year looks alot like Trent Green's 2nd yr w/Chiefs

stat-wise and Because we are the Chiefs and DKTM

Trent Green 2002 (32 years old)
287/470 - 61.1% 3,690 yards 26 TDs 13 INTs

Alex Smith 2014 (30 years old)
303/464 - 65.3% 3,265 yards 18 TDs 6 INTs

Well sans the TDs but Green only had 17 in 2001 and Smith had 23 in 2013.

Let's just start with an Oline capable of passblocking, first off. They don't have to be great...but average would be a significant improvement.

Likewise, let's get some WRs who will actually catch.

Bowe
Jenkins
Hemingway
Avant

ALL left TDs on the field this season - fact. It wasn't because Smith didn't throw to them - it's because they are terrible and don't catch. Or look over their shoulder and step out of bounds instead of showing field awareness and breaking to the end zone...

But mostly because they just dropped the chalupa. Repeatedly.

He threw 14 interceptions....which I would gladly take from Alex if it meant he was throwing 30 touchdowns and 4,500 yards (and neither of which he has come even close to accomplishing).

And how many games did they win....ugh....this argument again?

You have more faith in Herman Reid than I do.

His historical collapse in Indy last year paints a pretty telling picture about that fat ****.

Alex played well the second half of 2013, especially in the playoff game, and I'd mistakenly believed he'd turned a corner. I thought the 2014 Chiefs would be easily a 11-12 game winner, despite the schedule.

Until the Tennessee game. Then the SF game. And later, the Raiders and Arizona game (I give the Broncos game a pass because of Eric Berry - it was understandable that they came out flat). And now, I've all but given up on this regime.

These guys were supposed to know better.

I just can't believe this is the guy they thought he'd end up being. Maybe so and they're stupid, it's what he's always been.

But the guy is to afraid or sucks or both.

Andy Reid is either a moron who has no business being an NFL Head coach...or he's in on the fix.

He handed the SF game to the 49ers on a platter.

He is exactly what philly fan said he was, is and would be.

He's a 56% career coach. That's complete dogshit in the NFL.

Andy Reid clearly thought he could FIX Alex Smith and unlock the guy we saw in 3-4 games last year (Chargers in KC, Denver in KC, Colts playoff game).

It's pretty clear at this point he was wrong. Alex Smith is who we thought he was. And no one is going to let them off the hook! (Because they already extended him)

I was hopeful entering this season, but even when you look at Alex Smith's "hot streak" over his last 6 games in 2013, you see the 3 good games I mentioned above, sandwiched around the Colts stinker to close his regular season and blowout wins against the Redskins and Raiders in which Smith really contributed nothing special (unless you count dumping screen passes to Jamaal Charles special against Oakland as "special") in a pair of blowout wins.

That glimmer of hope was even perhaps too optimistic.

I think the comparison is valid. Guy-wise they are very similar. The difference is in the coaching philosophy. I loved green and vermeil. Too bad they drafted the chick-spitter instead of a defensive player.
