Why is what Philly did worse than Pittsburgh?

The initial reaction to Philly pulling Hurts seems like it has been cries of how much of a "disgrace" it was. For example:

But how is that any worse than other teams resting their starters? Our game didn't matter, but Pittsburgh rested a few guys which almost certainly helped Cleveland get into the playoffs and forced the Dolphins to sit at home.

Just curious if there's some reason I'm missing that the former situation is so egregious while the latter is just normal.

This.

NFL obviously gets a lot of mileage out of the division mattering (see 1/3/21). And I like it too. Nothing is better than beating the Cheating ****ing Donko Bitch****s like a drum just to be sure

But nuke the homefield stuff.

And maybe it doesn't matter. The year that it matters there aren't fans, so maybe whatever.

I'm not advocating getting rid of the divisions; I just don't think winning a shit division should be married to a playoff berth. You went 7-9 and won the worst division in football. That's nice. Here's a t-shirt, now go **** off to the golf course, and hopefully you do that better than your actual job.

What is the point of divisions, if winning it is meaningless?

I didn't realize until now that is the way the NBA have done it since 2016. Maybe you are right...

It was a shit move. Frankly I think Peterson used it as an excuse to help out Alex and Rivera, basically he folded on purpose to get them into the playoffs.
Yup. Maybe the plus side is that I could have seen Jason kelce retiring. But after this shit maybe he will want to make a last run with his brother and the coach who brought him into the league. Fingers crossed. How cool would that be?

They should keep divisions as is...only tweak the prerequisite that you must have a winning record to qualify...or be at least .500.

There should never be a team with a losing record in the playoffs...

Do something like if there is a team two games above a division winning team that would miss the playoffs that team woutget in over the division winner.

There is a major difference between resting your starters in preparation for a playoff run, as Pittsburgh was doing (especially without having a first round bye), and resting your starters to be ready for... September?

Also Sudfeld has been on the Eagles roster for four seasons now and he's obviously not a long term answer at QB... it would make more sense to give a guy like Hurts who is a rookie with more upside as many snaps as possible.

You may or may not be right but why should anyone care? Like others have said, win more games and don't be in a position where you have to rely on what another team does or doesn't do. This is just silliness.

That would be awesome. We need a center anyway and you could tell the Eagles players were PISSED.

I don't care THAT much but rest assured a lot of money was lost last night over it.

It also seems like knowing your game effects playoff seeding you would at least TRY to win. The Eagles 3rd sting QB looked lost as **** and made it look ridiculous.

Again I think Peterson was giving Alex a freebie.

Oh, I agree it was a questionable coaching decision.

As for gamblers, I couldn't care less.

VARSITY
So many people in this thread are not getting that criticism of this has nothing to do with the Giants. Nobody cares about them. I think most everybody would agree that they were not wronged in any way last night. The criticism is that the Eagles players showed up and were playing hard to win the game, while their coach clearly wasn't interested. It probably didn't help that it was Sunday Night Football and a division rivalry. Throwing in back-up QBs like that is not normal in a competitive game. Hope coach learned what he needed to learn from seeing Sudfeld and it was worth losing the respect of his players.

I think he made it pretty clear that he wasn't going to play injured people earlier in this week, making it sound like they were not looking at this as a normal regular season game. Though, I guess, that could have just been my take on what I had read.

Heck the first Philly TD was almost just a gift from the refs to keep the game close after Washington went up 10-0, they essentially just marched them down the field. They still almost blew it.
