RB Devon Achane, Texas A&M Absolute no as a 1st round pick. I don't think he shows the level of talent at RB that warrants it. Don't let that deter you from thinking he's not talented because he absolutely is. He's a slightly lighter version of Austin Ekeler in my eyes. He might be a little faster than Ekeler. That said, they are guys that you have to get out in space to be effective. Alot of outside zone and alot of short passes. That's valuable, for sure. And sure, he's going to pop some between the tackles. He'll probably be good in the redzone just like Ekeler because they hit the hole fast. 3rd or Goal and 1 with all the beef crashing down? Yeah they aren't running up the middle for shit. Anyhow, like the player. If he's a 2nd round guy and this team has no holes heading into that, I don't care. At 31, it's not even a consideration. WR Quentin Johnston, TCU I'd be all over it. He won't be there though. He will be the top WR drafted if he runs sub-4.45 which I've seen as extremely possible. I wouldn't rule out top 10. If he runs in the 4.3s he's definitely going top 10. He's the total package with his size, hands, and that speed and acceleration. I think that's the underrated thing about him is his ability to accelerate and get YAC. If Duggan was a better QB, I think Johnston would have broke 1,500 yards easily. This is the guy I'm keeping my eye on when the combine rolls around for sure. I have him around 20 if he doesn't run like a deer and I'd trade up if that's the case. I'm guessing I'll be moving him up my board and up in my mock considerably though. WR Tyler Scott, Cincinnati You know I love Tyler Scott. He's a burner. He reminds me so, so much of DeSean Jackson its rediculous. Would I take him at 31? Obviously every choice comes down to what happens in free agency and how the boards is falling, but as a stand-alone my answer is yes. Do I like him like I like Hyatt and Johnston? No, but I'm not sure anyone does. Scott is a guy that I could easily see as a high quality Z that can take the top off and do alot of what Tyreek did. He's alot more of a polished player in my eyes as compared to Hardman coming out. DT Calijah Kancey, Pittsburgh No. First off, we have Chris Jones so that immediately makes Kancey a 2nd string player. He's not going to be able to play 1-tech here. Kancey is a 100% 1-gap under tackle. There's not much more I can really elaborate on here. I like him in a role and maybe he develops into much more. Expecting the next Aaron Donald though is difficult. If you like Kancey, definitely check out Dante Stills from West Virginia who is a bit bigger (6'4' 289) and has that same quickness. Stills is projected much lower but you can still get a rotational 3/5-tech with alot of the same traits. DT Mazi Smith, Michigan I would but that weapon charge. It scare the shit out of me. One ****up in the next year and he's going to land his ass in prison. You'd like to trust that this team would be able to keep him in check and perhaps Mazi will keep himself in check. He seems like a genuinely good dude that made a really stupid mistake but I've aired my feelings on this before and wonder why he was carrying a loaded pistol and extra clip in Ann Arbor. Just not necessary. Anyhow, tremendous player that reminds me of a young Brandon Williams. Man, he's a monster. Pretending to be Veach, you'd be vetting the shit out this guy before you pull that trigger. I'm conflicted. DE Lukas VanNess, Iowa Yes. I think he's faster than Karlaftis and potentially stronger, plus he's longer. In many other ways he's just like Karlaftis. Motor, linear speed, etc. Not bendy. I think maybe a little better against the run than GK. I think you'd be fine with that pairing. It'd probably look alot like Cincinnati with Hendrickson and Hubbard. They'll get the job done. I think with the size and the strength, I'd take him over some speed guys like Hall and Ojulari who might struggle against the run a bit. DE Keion White, Georgia Tech Maybe and it'd be highly dependent on how the board falls. Look, some guys are high on him but I think they are way too high on him (#9 overall) This guy is powerful and he's got a good launch off the snap but I'm not ready to crown him the next Travon Walker. I was high on this guy two months ago but I'm being realistic with him. I said 3rd, maybe 2nd round. He finished the season well since then and I feel like he's a strong 2nd rounder maybe end of 1 guy. He needs to put together a better rush plan, better hands, and pad level. All those things really stand out on tape. He's got his power rush and little else. When he gets to the pros he can't just power to the QB. He's has to set up those tackles with inside/outside variety, come in with better leverage, and fight off their hands. He's also an older prospect at 24 that will turn 25 before we play in the next Super Bowl, so that's a consideration. Last edited by kccrow; 02-26-2023 at 03:05 PM.. |

Then there are late first/mid second guys, and they're going to go in that frame. Then late second to third guys are a little more nebulous. Then from there it's like anywhere in this group of 50 guys, choose your adventure. This year, guys might be mid first rounders or fourth rounders, and there's no consensus on any of it outside of like the top 15. It's either the worst draft in a decade or the best. I don't know. |

I agree that list makers are all over the place with these guys this year, less consistency than past years.

I noted one suggested teams would favor picks in next years draft over trades for this year's picks. |

I don't think the talent level where we are picking is all that different from the last few years. |

Is there a realistic possibility VanNess falls to us?
Because I think you just take that to the bank if it's there.

I'm probably ok with any of the guys in bold, if the Chiefs sit at 31.

Keion White seems to fit physically what they look for at DE.

At WR I would absolutely love Johnston but he's not there at 31 and I wouldn't go up for him. I don't think Scott is a R1. I was on the Kancey train early and I do think he's early R2, I just don't know he has more of an impact than a decent DE given he's not ready to be an every down guy. He'd be great, but he'd be a luxury. Mazi Smith probably offers a more complete and useful piece day 1. I do think he could be great, I wouldn't hate the pick, but I think he'll still also need a year. Absolutely no to a RB! |
