I agree 1000 percent. I believe Andy is the GOAT right now because he has been so successful without an elite QB and now that he has one, he has 2 rings.

As reference Bill without Tom Brady = 79-87 regular season (10+ seasons), 0 divisional titles, 2 playoff appearances, 1-2 playoffs, 0 rings.
In a nutshell, Bill Belichick has coached 10 seasons without Tom Brady. 7 of those have been losing seasons.

When they're the centerpiece of a defense, yeah, they have some leverage.

Playoff teams mostly have a star qb soaking up a lot of payroll. That’s where a guy about to turn 30 comes in handy. To put a good team over the top quickly. That’s a huge shift from last year where many of these guys played for free.

Raw teams won’t want to give up picks and may not want a guy who can’t help them 3 years down the road.

That kind of puts him in no man’s land especially if it takes high picks to move him. And even tougher because there’s a gigantic difference between negotiating at 29 vs 30, which might be an understated reason why both sides are firmly standing their ground.

The reality is that the players shouldn't sign contracts they're going to be unhappy with. If Jones doesn't like the contract has then he shouldn't have signed it. If he doesn't like the contract they're offering, he shouldn't sign it, play out the year and then hit free agency free and clear. Then if they tag him, he gets 120% of his 2023 salary fully guarantied. And if he doesn't like that one, then don't sign it. Holding out on a franchise tag is one thing. Holding out on a contract you negotiated is quite another. (IMO of course). But taking $23.4M guaranteed isn't a bad consolation prize if you get tagged.

For all the shit Cousins takes, that dude played the game and won. He took the Franchise Tags, negotiated the contracts he wanted, and cashed the checks. All without holding out.

If it comes with draft picks, no there's probably not a deal out there.

If it were nothing but cash? Yeah, a team would probably do that.

The injury thing is the biggest reason they won't do it. That and the tag.

It's alot easier for a QB i'd imagine, due to the rules of the game now, to play without injury.

You are flat out missing the fact that they both play at a more premium position regarding salaries, both are DPOYs, and both are younger than Jones. Watt when healthy averages more sacks than Jones has ever had in a season.

I understand that sentiment, but I kinda feel like that attrition is already baked into the process given the money he's losing by not reporting and his declining tag value for the next season. Kinda seems punitive enough at this point that stepping on his neck further probably doesn't move the needle because he's not signing any extension with the Chiefs anyway.

I haven’t seen anything that indicates that. He doesn’t seem to have interest except because guys like florio are pressuring him. If anything we can pay him a huge signing bonus which defers the cap to future years in order to free up $ for guy like jones. We have this card we can use anytime we want.

I think veach isn’t caving to jones because he isn’t going to be bullied, because of jones’ age, and because much as we hate to lose him we can move on without him. I don’t think it’s because we’re worried about mahomes’ future contract. We were this tough on tyreek as well even when there was zero pressure for mahomes to take a pay raise
