I wonder what that big blue KC Star printing building on I-70 is going to be in the future?

They still have a while with that building. Those presses are the most sophisticated ones in the mid-west and they are already doing contract print jobs for other papers and companies.

If I had to guess, the Star's printing facilities will probably be used for most of the McClatchey papers in the region and those papers will shut down or minimize the use of their presses.

I came within a whisker of printing with the Star. I have an uncle who works in their press room. Their pricing was comparable to the people we ultimately selected. In fact, the field was level all the way across.

But we thought we'd get more personal service with the smaller company and the smaller company didn't have a full page of penalty fees we'd incur if we were late or there was a problem with our copy. $350 an hour delay and per minute charges are a scary thing for the little guy.

Understood. I'd probably do the same thing if I was in your situation. It may be worth it to revisit though if you grow your circulation or your printing needs.

I'll bet my dad and your uncle know each other.

My uncle works nights so he doesn't know most the typical staffers.

They probably know each other. My dad has worked nights there for 40+ years. He works in the are where the paper comes off of the presses and is assembled and loaded on the trucks to go to the distribution areas for deliver.

Ah - I'll bet they do know one another. I'll bet your dad has even repeated some really corny jokes originating with my uncle.
