Cassel and Vrabel for the Chiefs is the only 2nd rounder he is responsible for. I don't get how he was responsible for anything in NE. He wasn't the GM and BB called the shots for the most part.

Nope BB had that, but he wasn't labeled as the GM either IIRC. Pioli was Director of Player Personnel, but worked with BB as a GM would BB just had final say.

No. Belichick is in complete charge of all football operations.

Picture two colleagues who are on the same page 98% of the time working to build a team together. Technically, one reports to the other, but they're in agreement so much that it hardly matters. During the 5% of disagreement, if it's over GETTING a new player (draft/FA), then EITHER can veto the acquisition.

That's about what it was.

Eh. I think it would be oversimplifying things to call Pioli the "talent finder". BB is VERY involved in that too.

I don't think his title was ever formally "General Manager". It was like "Vice President of Player Personnel" or somesuch.

They've both talked about it ad nauseum. Shared veto power. Usually they agreed on a guy, but if EITHER one didnt' like a guy for whatever reason, they wouldn't get him. But absolute, final say over all football operations is Belichick's.
