Three teams are interested in Jon Runyan
This thread is a combination of the following 3 threads...
AUSTINCHIEF- ************************************* ok, I have mentioned before that I would love to see Runyan in KC... I decided to start my own thread about it... because... well... I can. So, here are my reasons why... #1 all the obvious reasons... he is a pro bowler, proven player, definite upgrade, etc etc #2 another fairly obvious one... Ndukwe would be better used at RG and this would let him move there. #3 now we get to the good stuff... ON THE FIELD he is a nasty, mean, dirty S.O.B. #4 OFF THE FIELD, he is a stand up guy, nice etc... IF he can give us 2 solid years, he is well worth the investment until we can groom someone to replace him... MOST IMPORTANTLY he sets a perfect example of what our linemen of the future should aspire to be. The only problem with LJ is the line is no good anymore. This is the case with most RB's Give them a solid line and they will get tons of yards.

This would be so huge, getting us pretty well set at RT, for 09 atleast...a solid vet to start & a decent young prospect to backup.

It looks like Jon Runyan was just cleared in late August to start running. I would think that Runyan would be pretty far off from contributing in a starting manner until later in the season.
Runyan would be a good player to sign, but not an automatic fix as he hasn't even been in pads since the final Philadelphia game last season. He has just been rehabbing his knee. I honestly don't think we will have a consistent line until after the bye week. |

Maybe...maybe not. Obviously Runyan isn't a long term fix. Maybe a year or two at best. In all likelihood, Runyan probably wouldn't be able to contribute significantly until week 3 or 4...maybe longer depending on conditioning and how his knee reacts. So we are talking about a 35 year vet that is most likely out of shape, and recovering from a knee injury...and hopefully getting 10-12 games out of him as a starter this season. I think I would rather see them put the time and effort into a younger guy like Ryan O'Callaghan or Ike Ndukwe (who although probably belongs at RG).

Season-long lurker, first-time poster here. As a Chiefs fan living in Eagles country, I can tell you Runyan is closer to losing a leg than a step. He plays through pain and plays well.
I'd love to see the Chiefs sign him now before the Eagles make a play for him. If you haven't heard, their o-line, while worlds better, is a big question mark with much-hyped Jason Peters and schizo sideliner, Shaun Andrews, both not showing anything this preseason. |

Maybe you guys who know more about blocking schemes and playing offensive line will disagree, but doesn't it seem like if there was anyone who you could plug in and they could contribute right away, health aside, it would be someone like this who is a RT?
I'm sure there is a lot to learn in terms of plays, but you don't have to teach this guy how to play the position, and he would be playing one on one in a lot of situations with his man. A receiver it would take time to develop rhythm with the QB, a corner would need to know the coverage schemes front and back, but couldn't a RT get up to speed faster? |

I have no idea what to expect from this team now that Haley is taking over the offense though. I assume they use a mixture, with the backs we have though, I assume it's a pretty straight forward bunch, not a ton of pulling guards or anything. The bigger problem is all the play calling....OLineman goes left when he was suppose to go right, someone looses their consciousness, or knee, etc.... |
