What would someone have said if you told them about the Iphone and its capabilities in 1950? I can't beleive how every human generation feels it knows everything there is to know, when history continues to show that the previous generations didn't know shit. We are no different, the people born 100 years from now will definitely consider everyone alive right now a moron.

There were phones in 1950. If you had said to someone "Uh, in the future, those will be wireless and smaller and have pictures on it" they would have had no problem. One, there was already wireless technology. Two, they had small instruments. Three, they had pictures. I don't feel like there is nothing more to know. I just know that there's no way we're getting to another solar system to meet aliens. And no one is doing that with us. |

I don't think there'll be any "new laws of physics"; we'll just understand the existing laws that much better... but we're reaching the point of diminishing returns, IMO.

Just because we don't have a concept of something doesn't mean it's impossible. Every generation thinks they have reached the peak of technology, but breakthroughs WILL happen. If we manage to survive 2012 that is. ![]()

No one really said that, and no one really thought that. I get the feeling most of your historical understanding comes from commercial breaks during Ice Truckers on the History Channel. There's no indication of any astronomical understanding on your part in this thread. We crossed the mother ****ing ocean. Great. The chance of getting to another solar system without a breakthrough of evidence and application of string theory or use of the seventh or eighth dimension is as close to zero as you can think of before falling asleep. I don't ****ing care if you went to Disney World, took a Space Mountain ride, play the Star Wars games, and was told that if you can imagine it, you can achieve it. Our galaxy is huge. All our knowledge about it is increasing, and it's not leading to this idea that we're going to be going somewhere else. It's the opposite. We're ****ing here for good. Get the **** over it. |

![]() I can't believe I spent time reading world renowned physicists works when right here, all along, on ChiefsPlant no less, we have a man that knows the limits of future space travel as well the limits of intelligence of life all across the entire universe. Jenson if you were half as smart as you thought you were you wouldn't be arguing your case on this BB. You can theorize based on what knowledge we have at our disposal at the moment but you don't know absolutes now matter how much you want to look like you do or pretend you do for your ego. Repeat after me: "Educated Guess" and nothing more you pompous boaster. |

Today, different story. Are you really unable to apply this concept to your views on technological advances and what the "truths" are today and how those will change in the next 20+ years? |

But that's the thing. As it stands now, society isn't really interested in space, other than things in earth orbit to support the inventions you mention. Big picture, there's relatively little interest in going back to the moon, much less a manned exploration of other systems. The human race seems to have turned inward the last few years.

No. The nearest solar system is how far away? About 4.2 light years. You know how far that is? About 24 trillion miles. You know how far that is, yet? It's too far. The New Horizons will go about 28,000 miles per hour. You know how long it would take to get to the nearest star at that rate? About 100,000 years. And that's hoping the nearest solar system has developed, intelligent life like humans or apes. What if not the 1st, but the 8th does? That's about 10 light years away. That's about 60 trillion miles away. 60 trillion miles away, going 28,000 miles per hour is what? That's right. It would take 244,000 years to get there. I know what you're thinking. WE CAN MAKE FASTER SPACECRAFT! Sure. But how fast? A spacecraft that can go 500,000 miles per hour? Haha, but let's play fun and games so you're an asshole. How long would that take to get to the nearest star? Only 5000 years. |

I'll have to go find the article about the physics grad working at the University of Alabam (I think) on propulsion with anti-gravity. They speculated that anti-grav propulsion could be the foundation for future propulsions, such as an impulse drive. Donger may actually have knowledge of this, as subjects such as these are seemingly his hobby. |
