The trade bait theory is nonsense. If we pick up Clausen and then decide to trade him because Matt figures out how to play QB we will not be close to receiving a 3 overall 1st round pick in return a year from now. A perfect example is Dorsey, when the discussions of him going to the Falcons were swirling were we even close to recouping a top 5 pick, a year after he was drafted? No.

The best overall situation for the Chiefs would be for Suh to fall to their position and then trade down to a team that covets him.

Trade down for more picks. This team has too many needs.

Trade down is so easy to say, but never happens into the top 3

If they trade down what makes anyone think they are going to get anything out of the additional picks. Magee was a healthy scratch yesterday, wasn't he?

Michael Vick. Sanchez last year was close. Eli Manning for all intents. Of course these were all qbs... Ricky Williams. Defensive tackle and defensive end are two positions that can warrant the paycheck assigned with going that high. If we do draft Berry at #3, would he automatically become the highest paid safety in the NFL?

"Trading Down" should be a banned phrase here since the odds of it happening are like .00000000000000000000001.

A better salary cap situation at the least.

There wasn't a player last year that was really "worthy" a top 3 spot outside of Stafford. There are a lot of players this year that are considered top 5 players. Should be easier to trade down this year. Last years draft was shitty overall in the top 10.

No. The team in the spot just has to be willing to understand that with the salary structure in place they have to take less than what New Orleans gave up to get Ricky Williams. A mid 1st round and a second round for the overall #3 would be amazing.

Another Brandon Flowers maybe? And come on, nobody thought Magee was a good pick anyway.

You could take either a Polamalu or Ed Reed prototype and throw them on a Chiefs defense. The defense will improve, but it wont be good enough to compete at a high level. The reason I say that, is, this team defense lacks a foundation. They don't have a NT, nor any Ilbs, or any elite passrushers?

And when the time comes to playing opposing offenses with a good safety, What do you think the opposition is going to do? All the opposition is going to do is exploit the teams area of weakness and not attack their strengths but their weaknesses. And we do know that happens a majority of the time when teams play each other in the NFL.

To fix this defense its almost as if its going to involve major reconstructive surgery. Lets not forget, when other team defenses like Pittsburgh, Baltimore and New England were performing at a high level they had all the foundations in place with a good safety to top it off. It really just boils down to having all the necessary components that make a good defense.

*But, the positive is, Berry would be a step in the right direction. Its going to take one step at a time.
So lets focus on what we DO have. We all talk so much about what we don't have. But what about what we DO have?

Currently we can build around:

Flowers
Carr
Paige
Hali
Dorsey
Maybe Jackson if he comes around (he Should)

Edwards may not be a starter, but is a good rotational player, along with:
Studebaker
Magee
Gilberry

On Offense:

Bowe
Charles
Albert

Maybe we can develop:
Cassel
Lawrence
Castille
Cottam
O' Callaghan
Richardson
Brown

We have serviceable stop gaps that we can win with in:

Chambers
M. Brown
Vrabel
Waters

So....hrmm....looks like we have even more holes on offense then we do D.

Sign Wilfork/Hampton, gimme Berry or a WR in the 1st, two LB's in the second, and develop the young O-linemen you have and draft a few more in the later rounds.

At least that is what i would do.

It would also mean that a team would want to pay that salary while giving up a cheaper player in the 2nd round. Won't happen. Next idea please.

So it's happened 2 times out of 30 picks? or less then 1% of the time.
