I bet we trade down....or at least try. Though we tried trading down last year and nobody wanted it so we ended up reaching by about 10-15 picks.

NFL is changing. If they keep tweaking rules to make it more passing friendly, safety is becoming more and more important.

The NFL might be changing, but it doesn't look to me like positional draft value has. It's still LT, DT, DE, QB, not necessarily in that order.

I think if we are at 3.. regardless of previous drafts... you do what you can to get Suh.. can't get him... McCoy.... after that... QB/OL depending on who is ranked higher

flame away

And we're still stuffing the 3-4 peg through the hole, right? So cross Suh off the list. We already have him, according to the Executive of the Century, and his name is T. Jackson.

No, you draft Clausen. If Matt Cassel fixes his deep ball next season, then you can trade one of the two. Best case scenario, you have two legit starting QB's and you can trade one. If not, at least Clausen has an accurate deep ball, which is needed to run Haley's offense.

Those are still the most important but safety and corner are right behind them, especially if the player is truly elite. Same with running back or WR IMO.

I'm leaning towards this as well. If it were 'me' making the decision etc.
I doubt it'll happen, but so far there is nothing that makes me think Cassel is the 'future' of this franchise. Serviceable, sure. But we need a franchise QB.
We at least need to make an effort, I think.

Yeah, i don't think it'll happen either. But a good QB puts up more then 10 points a game regardless of talent around him. He should do better next year, but if he is having these same accuracy issues, then he's a lost cause. I'd rather be prepared for that in all likelihood then not.

I agree a safety is important, even if we do draft this kid and he turns out to be special, great. Im all for it. However, to fix this defense, it is going to involve more than just a safety. You could take either a Polamalu or Ed Reed prototype and throw them on a Chiefs defense. The defense will improve, but it wont be good enough to compete at a high level. The reason I say that, is, this team defense lacks a foundation. They don't have a NT, nor any Ilbs, or any elite passrushers?

And when the time comes to play opposing offenses with a good safety, What do you think the opposition is going to do? All the opposition is going to do is exploit the teams area of weakness and not attack their strengths but their weaknesses. And we do know that happens a majority of the time when teams play each other in the NFL.

To fix this defense its almost as if its going to involve major reconstructive surgery. Lets not forget, when other team defenses like Pittsburgh, Baltimore and New England were performing at a high level they had all the foundations in place with a good safety to top it off. It really just boils down to having all the necessary components that make a good defense.

*But, the positive is, Berry would be a step in the right direction. Its going to take one step at a time.
