So as far as I know, nothing.

I hate Ol' Norv as much as the next guy, but is it really his fault that the kicker missed three field goals?

This brings me joy as Turner will only speed up the demise of the dolts.

How's that since he got them closer to the Super Bowl than any previous coach since Bobby Ross?

San Diego is a very good team. Yes, they blew it yesterday. But once they finally get over LT and bring in a real running back through the draft this year, get back guys like Castillo and Brown, not to mention Merriman, this team will be a playoff team for years.

If the Chargers had kept Michael Turner instead of LT, they'd have been a Super Bowl team last year.

Marty was fired for reasons that had nothing to do with what the Chargers did that season.

Norv might have gotten them closer than marty, but marty won more games and their results and superbowl appearances are the same.

As a chiefs fan I was glad they fired him. I thought he would win the big one with that team.

Here's the problem - Norv is an excellent regular season coach.

Sure, he'll choke in the playoffs, but who really cares? They'll whup our ass twice a year and we won't be within sniffing distance of capitalizing on their post-season yack job.

I was hoping they'd can Norv and bring in some young coordinator who proceeds to pull a McDaniels and sabatoge the organization.

Marty got them to the AFC Divisional Game in 2007. He went 14-2 to get there. Disagree with the Michael Turner comment too, but that's just speculation on both our parts, right? Nothing to argue there.

Okay, maybe my comment was a bit optimistic. Wishful thinking perhaps. But the decision to go for the onside kick seems like a harbinger of bad things to come for Coach Turner. One of those watershed moments of fate that doom a coach's future with his current franchise. Hell, that play may have secured Norv a place on the next NFL Films epic fail highlight reel. We'll see.

But more importantly, a lot of Norv's talent came from Marty's drafts. [Two of the players you mentioned, Castillo and Merriman, were Marty's picks. Not sure who Brown is.] Will they be able to retain that talent? Replenish it? Can Norv win in SD with his own players?

But I do agree with you in that the dolts should be a good team next year as they'll likely retain the core of their talent. Here's the draft breakdown:

1 Larry English

Marty

2006

2 Marcus McNeill
3 Charlie Whitehurst
5 Tim Dobbins
6 Jeromey Clary
6 Kurt Smith
7 Chase Page

2005

1 Shawne "roidman" Merriman
1 Luis Castillo
2 Vincent Jackson
4 Darren Sproles
5 Wesley Britt
6 Wes Sims

We had this argument the other day, but the man is extremely fortunate. He's been able to be a head coach for the better part of the last 15 years, pretty much the entire salary cap era... and he's barely achieved squat.

He took over a Schottenheimer team that had a decent playoff run, but they still lost in the AFC title game. I don't think he's Rich Kotite or anything, but I think if you even gave someone like Herm 15 years, he'd probably chalk up one decent playoff run. Every year we hear how great they are and they're the team to beat, yet they never beat anybody.
