Going to Vegas

I'm going to Las Vegas in a couple weeks. Any good suggestions on stuff I should do? It's my first trip there and I want to do it right.

(Yes I'm aware this is begging for smartass remarks. Knock yourself out.)

P.S. Rep to legit suggestions

If you look closely, the south side of the casino structure is one of those large permanent tents. It is actually built by the company that built the Dallas Cowboys practice facility that collapsed.

All you can eat crab legs? I wonder if I ate slow enough if I could eat them for the rest of my life. Do they have eligibility rules about leaving the table to go to the bathroom or eating for more than 24 hours or something?

I'm 27 and single. My friend is turning 30 and we decided Vegas was a good place to celebrate since it's only a few hours away. He's been before but I haven't. It will probably be a group of 4-7 people. I'm down to try about anything short of prostitutes.

Christ, I normally get a few e-mails a day from these casinos, and I've gotten none since offering to help you.

Sorry dude. As soon as I get something, I'll pass it on.

The craps tables in Vegas offer the best odds on craps. If you are a craps player you have to hit the craps table.

My buddy's plan is to spend a good portion of one of our days sitting table-side playing the minimum bet on the do not pass line and enjoying free cocktails. If I can get a velour jumpsuit and some dark Ray-Bans to wear that would be preferable.

Stay at the Rio every room is a Suite and once an hour the girls dressed in lace dance on various stages around the casino... Hooters is cool also... Tropicana is crap... New York New York has a Roller Coaster and is fun to ride at 3:00am in the morning...Stay away from downtown late at night(Fremont area) the light show is cool but alot of scary people there. The Wynn is cool, Caesars Palace is nice and you can grab a beer when you walk in the door. Visit Jimmy Buffets margaritaville..cool place have a margarita and go see the show La Femme at MGM Grand--it was fun and only cost $50 bucks per person... I lived there for quite some time and everything can be fun.. depending on who you hang out with...

Well, to be honest the best odds in craps are just that, the 'odds'...also known as 'free odds'. (This is the 'behind' bet on your 'pass line' bet...they can also be taken on a 'don't pass' bet, but aren't as lucrative as a 'don't pass' bet that has survived the 'come out'). So the big thing you are looking for in craps is how many 'times' your pass line bet you can place odds. (i.e. 10x odds) Then you make a 'pass line' bet based on how much money you want to put down on the 'odds' bet.

Sorry, it's late, I am bored, and I am somewhat of a craps geek. The real significant variations in craps games other than this multiplier is in proposition bets or 'prop' bets. Since these all suck percentage wise to start with, I seldom pay attention to the differences.

This. Pass Line with max allowed odds (at least 10x) has no house advantage. You won't find that in any other game in the casino. Play that and place the 6 and 8 if you want, and stay far away from the field and most props (maybe the occasional hardway if you really must).

Take the time to really learn the game of craps and you'll never want to play anything else. It really is a great game if you know what you're doing.

If this is your goal, play the pass and the don't pass. Everyone will know what you're doing, but the only way you lose is if a 12 rolls on the come out (the pass line loses and the don't pass pushes).

I'll be in Vegas starting on Thursday the 11th through the 16th. Taking a KState fan with me so hopefully we get to see KU vs KSU part three in Vegas. As long as KU makes it this year. I had the same plan last year only to have KU lose to Baylor the day before I got out there.

OK, I am a geek...not trying to be contrary but....

Pass Line bets are always in the houses favor. (I was thinking about providing a bunch of math and explanation here...). The long and short of it is that the house has about a 1.5% overall advantage on this bet.(Now for those of you who don't know...this is a very small advantage for most casino bets. For example betting on 'any craps' will be around a 12% house advantage depending on the casino, and most American roulette bets have over a 5% house advantage).

The Odds bet has ZERO house advantage...it is a true 50-50 bet as MoreLemonpledge stated. (Seldom found in a casino)

So the trick is to maximize the 'odds' bet, which is why the allowed multiplier is so important, and it is important that you take advantage of it as much as possible. The casino wins because to get the 'odds' bet you must place the less lucrative 'pass line bet'. The ratio these bets are allowed in makes a difference in your overall percentages. A $3 'pass line' bet with $60 'odds' behind (20x) is much better than a $5 'pass line' bet with $10 'odds' behind (2x).
