Chiefs & Pats Ask to Talk W/McDaniels

Apparently the Chiefs and Patriots asked the Rams permission to talk to McDaniels according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Let the games begin.

If McDaniels demands that KC move up and grab RGIII, I'll welcome him with open arms.

Remove yourself from the situation.

If a GM brought in a questionable QB and gave him $60 million before he'd taken a snap when we already owned his rights for two years, drafted a complementary player at #3 overall, sinking another $60 million, hired a lunatic coach who was fired after 2.5 years, and then his solution to this problem was to bring a guy as offensive coordinator who is a pariah in the league, who has been caught cheating, and whose offenses are incompetent, and then wants to stick with said QB despite every objective analysis showing that he is one of the worst players at his position, what has he done to warrant keeping his job?

Because offensive coordinators control decisions on 1st round draft picks.

This.

Wow, hadn't looked at it that way. Very humbling.

How bad is it that the best move of all those things is drafting Tyson Jackson?

Absolutely. And if they lose, that's what will happen. That's what's been happening.

I have no issues expressing displeasure with the situation. But what I'm talking about here in regards to the displeasure with McDaniels as the OC is because it seems to be disliked mostly due to the idea that it means Matt Cassel will be here. Well, unfortunately, Matt Cassel will be here in 2012 with or without McDaniels. So, here are the options:

1) Matt Cassel + an OC he has had some success with in the past and runs a similar system to what Weis ran in his time here
2) Matt Cassel + someone who is not a proven OC
3) Matt Cassel + someone who is a former OL coach
4) Matt Cassel + someone who may have done a decent job elsewhere in the past but who has never worked with Cassel and who may bring a totally different style of offense that everyone will have to re-learn all over again

If the organization isn't getting rid of Cassel, then as a fan you have the right to express displeasure, not go to games, and not spend money on the team. But I'm still going to watch them on TV, and God help me, I'd take option 1 every time if Cassel is going to be behind center in Week 1.

I get the displeasure, but I think it's not really about McDaniels, it's about the idea that Cassel is going to be the QB...

You would have preferred that the GM pay Cassel the franchise # for two years - about 30 million, which is about the same as the 28 million in guaranteed money in the contract Cassel signed? You are really upset about that?

Yep, we were screwed on bargaining position given that Cassel had the 1 year $14m contract in hand. However, did the rest of it have to be so front-loaded? Cassel is relatively cheap by standards of starting QBs for the remainder of his contract. Of course, by performance.....

Does anyone else see this as a sign that Pioli has decided on a head coach already (probably Romeo)? I think the Del Rio interview is/was probably for DC and they want to make the announcement as a package deal.

Romeo as HC, Del Rio as DC, and Mcd as OC?

Thoughts?

If Del Rio is hired as DC, I hope that on his first day of the job he shows up in the parking lot and Otis Taylor hits him with a sledge and says "paybacks a bitch".
