TOSIBA PAPER WEIGHT

Here's my deal. I have had a 46" Toshiba DLP for 18 months (bought new). I am past my warranty on the TV. However, in September, I had to have the lamp replaced....$200. Not a big deal, not uncommon. One month later, my light engine went out. Took it back to the Toshiba guy......$600 parts and labor which I refused to pay. I can buy a new LCD for $750. So that's $800 repairs for a $1400 TV less than 2 years old. I called Toshiba and just asked for the part, telling them that surely they back their product better. I talked to two techs and a supervisor to no avail. I told them and wrote to the main office and told them that I would recommend against Tosiba to as many people as possible. Their light engine probably them $50-100, and they won't send me one. I told them that I would gladly pay the labor...but nothing doing. I'm going to cost them that times 1000, by the time I get done passing on the word of my Tosiba Paper Weight.....soon to be salvage yard decoration.

I have had good luck with Toshiba before, and bought this one based on that experience but this one has been a total lemon. IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY A DLP OR FLAT SCREEN TV AND ARE LOOKING AT TOSHIBA........I RECOMMEND THAT YOU THINK ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE LOOK AWAY. If you already have a Tosiba, I hope that you have better luck than I have with them.

So I'll will help other folks with their tosiba decisions. It's the right thing.

I'm giving them until the first of January, then I'm going to contact different Consumer Products referral magazines, and wherever else. Just the planet has thousands of readers, right? so if just a few folk on here decide to look a different brand, it could cost them several thousand as I figure it. I imagine there will be a few after Christmas TV shoppers.

No, but seriously, I am interested in posting it anywhere that I can. Thanks for the tip.

I have right here on my desk a class action settlement against toshiba for their faulty bulbs, I didnt send it in only because I couldnt find all the information they needed. I have a 56 inch DLP Toshiba and have replaced the bulb 3 times in less than 2 years. I do also own a Toshiba LCD that I havent had any trouble with (knocks on wood) and I love it. Im not sure if its to late for you to do anything but heres a website that might help you www.DLPLAMPSETTLEMENT.com or call toll free 1-800-894-1766. I have a buddy that bought the same TV as me only a 62 inch and has replaced at least one bulb AND the light engine.

I appreciate it. I went on the website and it says that it is for 2004, 2005 models. Mine is a 2006, but I can assure they didn't get their problem fixed.

Horrible experience. I bought a Toshiba 3 years ago, only for the picture to fade out. Older line (three years old!) and they do not carry parts.

My family has owned several POS Sanyos that last FOREVER. How in the hell does a supposedly top of the line Toshiba get out-done by Sanyo?

I am enjoying my Panasonic Plasma now. Screw Toss-hiba.

Check out the Samsung LED DLP's. If you want a really big screen, that's the way to go!

Did you call Toshiba at all? I'm kind of like an old dog that keeps diggin' up the same bone. I'm going to irritate the crud out of them. I would buy another Toshiba LCD if they would send me like a 70% discount card or something. Throw me a new bone, cause I'm gonna wear this one out.

I went DLP thinking that it would out last the LCDs or Plasmas. Guess I found out better. I just don't think that you can't beat the quality and space saving of the panels.

I've owned a 50" Toshiba DLP for 2.5 years now and don't regret a bit. Damn thing is on all day long and I'm still on my first bulb. Lucky I guess.

Laptop. They sent me an email confirming it was shit, and not to their standards. I sent it in for repair on 3 different occasions. 3 times they sent it back, not fixed, and refuse to replace it.

I'd be wary of LED engine DLPs. Many models have had a slight geometry problem on the edges. Plasmas no longer have an issue with burn in, but the gas escapes the pixels slowly over time, causing a small, but steady degradation in the picture. LCDs basically use a large fluorescent backlight that just goes when it goes, but it is cheap and easily replaceable by the end user.

LCD gives you best combination of life, picture quality, low glare, and size right now, but a 46 inch TV will still set you back about 1000-2200 depending upon the model.

If you can afford it, get a Samsung.
