So...Petro's new lack of access is making him cranky

I can't figure it. He's completely speaking crazy-talk on 810 right now. "Dayton Moore is on the clock"?!?! Seriously? The organization from top to bottom is 100% stocked better than the condition in which Moore found it...and he's on the clock because they haven't found a solution at second base over the last 3 years? Does Petro even know baseball? This is stupidity. Not like football...when you have a minor league system, you have to take a look at overall organization. Petro is going to become more an more intolerable if this is how he's going to be with his Chiefs pipeline drying up. Anyway...END RANT.

I like Petro when he's not berating callers or on-air guests. If you don't agree with him he turns into a little girl. See: Gottleib.

If things work they way they are supposed to and the way the Royals are setting things up, players will make the big league club based on achievement and there will be a player being groomed behind them. We shouldn't have as many guys come up and flame out because they weren't ready.

The big league club has improved every year and should improve again this year. The last three years the team has gone from a .383 to a .426 to a .463 winning percentage.

While you may not agree with all of the individual personnel moves he has made DM is improving the system and the team. There is no doubt that he should be held accountable for what happens on the field, but things are getting better.
I agree with all of this.

The bigger point, however, is that Moore is being given the resources and the ability to try to turn this franchise into a viable ML product.

This wasn't the case during the Baird years, so it's very difficult, if not impossible, to make a judgment about his abilities as a GM.

The Glass family deserves a lot of criticism for running the franchise into the ground, but they also deserve some praise for finally wising up.

It seems like we're getting there. Slowly but surely.
And this is what builds championship baseball teams that compete yearly for the playoffs. I'm of the belief that Dayton could be an average GM when it comes to signing free agents and trading players and still field playoff teams...as long as he is a master of building the organization's system of minor leagues and scouting. Having said that, I think he's an above average guy when it comes to free agents and trades. He's not to the level of Schurholtz in his prime...but better than 50% of the guys out there.

This is TECHNICALLY true with all GM's. What I'm disputing is the urgent and immediate nature of Petro's comments....like if the Royals somehow don't go to the playoffs this year, Moore is done. That's simply not going to be the case. If they lose 100 games...then maybe that happens. But for now, there's no evidence that suggests that he's "on notice" or something like that.

No argument.

It would be supremely disappointing if this team falls on its ass this year and isn't competitive, but I think it's almost inconceivable to think that Moore's job is in any danger this year, or likely next.

Now, if several of the expensive, high-round draft picks start to flop, and this becomes a trend, then he might be in some real trouble.

Random question. I don't live in KC anymore, but am going to a game at the end of June. Will all the renovations be done? Reading the Star is frustrating...I can't make heads or tails of the what's going on. I just want to know if I'm going to get the "new" experience or not.

I think I remember hearing that K will be approximately 95% done on opening day. I can't swear to this, but that's what's coming to mind.

Seems like things should be pretty well wrapped up come June.

Holy Hell, did you hear the last time Doug G was on Petro's show (earlier this week)? Petro completely pwned him! He left Gottlieb in the verbal fetal position. I was embarrassed for Doug

the Royals PR person was on a couple weeks ago, threw around that 95% completed figure, then said that the remaining 5% is offices and such. So, yeah, I think it'll be pretty much done.

he's been a complete a-hole lately...and he was the only kc radio guy i could listen to for more 5 minutes.....he melted down on Gottleib last week....he routinely acts like a 15 yr old girl to callers...

the guy is basically a resentful middle aged douchebag who thinks he should be "bit time"...

Moore is definitely on the clock. For what is the question? Is he on the clock to deliver a .500 club? It'd be nice. I think a 7 game improvement is about all one can ask right now.

Wow...in three years the team has jumped 0.080 % I think i pee'd pants. The expectations are so low low that anything better will do.

baseball is a slow turn around compared to football. starting at the bottom and not having unlimited cash to spend makes the process slower and harder.

I'll give DM a pass for at least 2 more years, maybe 3.
