Pat Surtain: 2005-2009

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/24/chie...n-who-is-next/

Quote:
Kansas City remade its front office, its coaching staff and now it gets to work on its roster. One of the first of those significant moves came Tuesday, when the Chiefs cut veteran CB Patrick Surtain.

The move removed Surtain’s $7 million base salary off Kansas City’s books and instantly freed up $6.184 million that the Chiefs will now be able to spend on free agents and draft picks. The 32-year-old Surtain is not expected to be the last Chiefs player released before Friday. Veteran LB Donnie Edwards could also be in jeopardy, as he is scheduled to make $5 million in base salary. If he is released, it would free up another $4.5 million in salary-cap savings.

It’s the time of the year when the size of the free-agent pool grows by the day. It happened Tuesday in Kansas City, and it will happen again Wednesday and Thursday in other cities.

I'd say he had one good season, one average season, and one shitty season.

I don't think that qualifies as "pretty well."

Players the Chiefs could have drafted in 2005 instead of Pat Slowtain:

Mike Nugent (could have solved our kicker problem)
Khalif Barnes (could have solved our RT problem)
Roscoe Parrish (could have solved our KR problem)
Darrent Williams (younger and faster than Surtain, less-apt to get murdered in Kansas City)
Vincent Jackson (jesus christ, imagine VJ next to Bowe)

I could go on about several players picked in the third round, but in short, **** you Carl. One last time!

Surtain was exposed when he didn't have the Miami pass rush to help him.

Didn't he drop a game winning pick 6 in the Dallas game in 05 that would have got us in the playoffs?

The salary cap space doesn't really matter since we are probably at the minimum required anyways.

Good riddance though he never lived up to his billing

True dat.

I am surtain that Donnie sails in to the sunset this year. It was a dumb ass move to being him back anyway. He was a good assist-player back in the day, but he was never a game changer.

Surtain's savings is huge-that's ALOT of money to sign a PREMIER FA with, plus the rest of our cap space, possibly cut Edwards... We can sign ANYBODY we want this year, if we so choose. Bring on FA.

Haha..
Love the monday morning QBing that goes on in this website.
Every player is either HOF worthy or sucks. Every pickup is the dumbest shit ever... 4 years after it happens.

Surtain was at least an above average corner up till last season, that's the truth. Also every person on this site was absolutely ecstatic when got him in free agency, mostly because he was one of the best FAs on the market and but also because Carl played hard ball and got him for less than the Dolphins wanted.

Reading this thread now though, yeah you guys all knew better. Sure.

None of us knew better, that's the point.

Carl was as dumb as the rest of us mother****ers.

And that's why he's gone.

Chiefs cut 4 players: Surtain, Edwards, Huard and Merritt

I know we have the Surtain thread.

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02..._transactions/

The Kansas City Chiefs announced four transactions on Tuesday. The club terminated the contracts of three vested veterans: LB Donnie Edwards, QB Damon Huard and CB Patrick Surtain. The Chiefs also waived TE Michael Merritt.
