** OFFICIAL: "Do You Believe in God and an Afterlife?" Thread**

Simple question.

I'm just curious how representative this place is, compared with mainstream America on the question. A few threads of late, just got me wondering....

Please feel free to discuss.

I dont believe in any certain religion, I think they are all stupid, but I do believe in a God. I live by this concept;

I believe that everything that you do bad comes back to you. So everything that I do that's bad, I'm going to suffer from it. But in my mind, I believe what I'm doing is right. So I feel like I'm going to heaven.

Ok, I'll post more on-topic. If there were a god, how could he punish people for not believing in him when there are so many beliefs out there? Further, could a good god truly be vengeful enough to send one to hell just for making the wrong choice?

Later I just came to realize my relationship with god was going to be what I made it. One thing I notice even now is the more I pray the happier I seem to be in general. lil momma started praying as well some time back. The more we seem to discuss god and have him as a part of our life the better our relationship seems to be as well. More loving.
The fact that you and lil momma's communication has grown, is good enough reason to believe that God is with you. Good for you.

Organized religion isn't all bad. I used to think it was, but there are factions out there who don't try to control every moment of your life. I kinda like the place we attend. Good people.

Such an incredibly complex question, Mr. Mr. Kotter. And, with so many vitally important ramifications. I just closed my eyes and clicked.

I hope I chose correctly.

Thankfully, not believing in a god means not believing in a hell either, so I'm ok with that.

I believe that there is something above and beyond what we have now, but I also firmly believe that it is nothing like what we've been led to believe. And I have no idea what it could be.

Why? Do you feel the need to think there is more?

All you have to do is look at the fact that the first three commandments govern the relationship between God and man, the fourth thru eight govern relationships between people, and the final two govern private thoughts.

This is the interpretation from the Lutherans and Catholics:

"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments."

What's interpreted in bold type is why God can be vengeful.
