Special Ed drops out of formation so that Zebedee won’t get frostbite. This is somewhat problematic since the plane doesn’t have navigation equipment. To make it worse, a weather front has come in, and visibility is dropping fast. Seclark is working furiously to keep track of the plane’s position and use dead reckoning to get back to base.

Bad weather – rain and clouds
Seclark has tried to keep track of the plane’s position, but without navigation equipment and visual sightings he’s relying only on radio contacts via redhed. With visibility near zero, the B-17 has no choice but to stay at altitude, flying north to attempt to get out of the storm front. The flight home drags on as the plane heads north, communicating with invisible radar stations to estimate its position. Two hours later, a runway near Edinborough reports moderate visibility, and Special Ed heads toward it. Dropping to only 500 feet, Sack Time finally finds an opening through the clouds, and buzzes Scotland until seclark can find the base. After that, it’s easy, and Special Ed slides the plane to a smooth stop. The crew relaxes for the night at a naval base before ferrying Sack Time back home two days later.

I suppose the fact that the plane returned AT ALL after dealing with 29 planes is a sign that we're still a somewhat lucky flight, but we're starting to lose crew members left and right.

Hell, the last flight that was "apparently compromised" went down in a big ball of flames. Not sure if that flight even made it to the target zone beforehand.

RIP Pastor. Your bombardier skills and in-flight sermons will be missed...

Actually, I didn't even bother reading on down to see what happened to the Plane. Once I saw I was dead, I put up a post, then got distracted and never when back.

Believe me, there's not *much* luck there, but the simple fact that we ran into a "probable record" of 29 opposing fighters and didn't end up being blown out of the sky says a little something.
