My grade of our first day: C+

I love the Chiefs, but I hated what we did our first day.

You can't criticize us in terms of value or talent -- we ended up with three of the most talented players from this weekend altogether. Dorsey was a brilliant pick, and probably the best possible option we could have had.

But Albert is completely unproven at tackle. Guard is an awful position to Draft nonetheless. Giving up two picks for him seemed like a disasterous decision. Flowers is incredibly talented but he's got so many character concerns my brain is exploding.

Here's hoping we continue drafting talented players. But here's hoping we avoid some of the sloppy decisioin making from an absolutely zany day one.

WTF

This isn't pride issues, moron. I don't care how wrong I was. I don't care if I'm a genius or a moron. At the very least I was entertained for the winter and a few others were entertained as well.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I disagree with most here, simple as that.

I'm absolutely certain I'm going to get hazed next year. That's what I'm looking forward to.

Dorsey was a great pick, a franchise pick that you don't get to make very often. I don't know why you are so down on Albert. I look at it this way, Steve Hutchison was drafted with the 17th pick in 2001. He was strictly a guard. So we grab Albert at 15, and if he is strictly a guard I think the pick still has a lot of value. Now I believe he will be a great LT. Bringing him in at LT next to Brian Waters gives us a huge left side of the line to pass protect and to carve out holes for LJ. And don't forget that means we upgraded at RT by moving McIntosh over there.

We swapped 3rd round pick (Moved down 10 spots) and gave them a 5th.

I'd rather have Albert over William, Clady, Otah and the rest of the bunch.
I don't disagree about Dorsey.

Albert's the big risk here.

It'd be one thing if we dropped our 17th on him, which I still wouldn't have been thrilled about doing for a guard.

But if we traded away an additional pick, and swapped thirds, for a guard, Albert would have been a mistake. The only way this is a good pick is if he starts OT on Day One (hopefully LT, but that's wishful thinking), and does well.

Well, just my opinion, but my money says he's starting at LT day one, and anchors the line for the next 10+ years.

But, given that I was pimping him as an OT before anyone, I imagine that opinion doesn't surprise you.

It doesn't surprise me, and **** me, if you're right about that I can totally vouch for your rightness and my wrongness.

If he does start LT on opening day, that alone justifies the pick and the trade-up for the pick.

But I wouldn't trade for a guard almost ever, especially in the first. So I hope he's at OT, otherwise we just committed a Chiefs-like blunder the likes of which I'll scorn about until you people hate me anew.

WTF? It was a 5th rounder. We still had a 5th. Albert is a stud.
Day 1 is an A+. You're being ridiculous.

Ironically, often you can Draft a stud guard in the fifth.

Direckshun, Albert was rated as a top 10 talent by many people. I don't care about some stupid mantra that you don't draft a guard in the first round.
First of all, we're going to play him at tackle.
And second of all, even if he is a guard, you take a top ten talent when you can get him at 15. Passing on that talent makes no sense, any way I look at it.
Following silly mantras or rules of thumb is a good way to eff yourself in the b when it leads you to pass on good talent when its there.

Bullshit. Albert is in no way, shape or form a "risk".

WTF are you smokin'? Seriously?

The guy AT WORST is Will Shields, jr. He'll start for 10 years at right guard and go to multiple Pro Bowls. At best he's a stud left tackle who will start for the next 10 years. He's athletic, has great feet, a passion for football and is excellent in space.

Are you telling me that you wouldn't pick Will Shields at #15 overall?

JFC.

I would pick Will Shields, but that's because Will Shields went to 13 straight Pro Bowls and is a first-ballot hall of famer.

Call me crazy, just absolutely nuts, but I don't assume like you do that Albert will go to 13 pro bowls and become a first ballot hall of famer. I don't assume that about anyone. Players like that virtually don't exist, and I don't know if Albert is that guy. How can you ever know?

Albert become a Top Ten prospect in the offseason. He just flew up charts after combine numbers etc etc. I wasn't sold on it like anybody else was.

I'll repeat it again, if he opens the season at LT, I was wrong. If he opens the season at OG, I'll still dislike the pick. I may just hate it. We'll see.

You can't know, but when you have a guy very highly rated on your board, and a lot of people also rate him highly (Philly was trying to nab him there, too), you don't pass on him just because some rule of thumb about guards in the first round.
Plus, a lot of people acknowledge that he has the potential to be a very good tackle.

Hell I acknowledge that.

I just don't have the faith in our coaching to bring it out of him.

I didn't say he'd be guaranteed to go to 13 straight Pro Bowls - I said he's Will Shields, jr. If he goes to three Pro Bowls, the guy is a great pick. Hell, if he goes to ONE Pro Bowl, the guy is a great pick.

I just think you're looking at this all wrong. Complaining about giving up a five (in a year in which the Chiefs had TWO) is ridiculous.

Are you telling me you'd be happier with Otah? Because if the Chiefs hadn't given up that 5, that's who'd be penciled in at LT. And personally, I think that Albert will be special.

I can't say the same for Otah.
