Some perspective

So the Chiefs have been good for 10 years. Andy has been here that long and they've just been a real consistent good team in the NFL. Averaged 12 wins a year since Andy has been here.

Then they get Mahomes and are averaging 13 or so. They've turned over the roster and built an elite offense, turned over the roster and built an elite defense and are still winning.

In a league built to....not let that happen. Look around at teams that are good. Usually they have a 3ish year run, top out, then start losing talent and end up going back down into missing the playoffs and kinda start over. Usually there's a window, look at the Bills, etc.

This group just keeps winning games. Every year.

I get we want the offense to be better. I'm sure they do as well. But damn guys.....we're kinda in the golden age here. They're gonna end up winning 14 games this year. We'll bitch and moan our way to hosting another AFCCG at the Head.

Perhaps you've been spoiled by 5 straight AFCCG appearances, and don't realize that each one of these could be the last one. Ever.

2 championships out of 5 title appearances, sure any team would take it, but when your team was capable of winning all 5, just two is a what could've been scenario.

Lots of forgiveness from ending the drought and a lot of I'm just happy to be here.

It doesn't mean you can't be questioned or critiqued, contrary to the belief of many on this board. To question Andy is tantamount to fire Andy on this board. It's very strange, but I've just come to ignore the mouth breathers that cant quite understand the concept.

We hear it constantly. Andy Reid, greatest play designer and play caller in history. Offensive guru. Offensive genius.

3rd and 1, my money is on PUNT team hitting the field next play, and I'll profit more than I lose.

If he was as smart as everyone thinks, when he finds himself in 3rd and 1, he should 100% take a couple delay of game penalties to get to 3rd an 11, and then easily pick up the first with either a schemed up play, or a Mahomes scramble.

3rd and 1, he just can't get it right.

Seems odd that the greatest playcaller in nfl history's kryptonite is the most desirable 3rd down distance. Just can't get it. It's hilariously bad.
They were about a 70% success rate for 3rd and <= 3 in last year's playoffs when the games mattered and their opponents around 60%.

I guess we could bitch about that one drive before halftime of the 21 AFCCG though if we're truly talking about a 3rd and short failure with impact.

What else is there, exactly? Am I supposed to be mad to be here?

That's very true. Because honestly to feel any other way after this much success is just finding things to bitch about that you have absolutely no control over. Frankly, it doesn't have any impact on your day to day life and you can't control any aspect of what happens on the field so why wallow in negativity over it?

It's all about how you quantify success.

If 2 championships out of 5 title game appearances is acceptable to you, enjoy your invincible bliss no matter what happens from here forward.

I'm of the mindset that 2 is very cool, but we squandered the majority of those huge opportunities.

Time will tell where this team goes and if they rack up anymore championships, or if the football Gods repeatedly toss a stumbling block under them in the biggest games that keeps them from going the distance again.

I'll be annoyed at stupid ass playcalls that take the ball out of Mahomes hands and surrender punts from the enemy 40, and fans such as yourself can stare at the goings on slack jawed, thumb up your ass, big ol grin on your face, just happy to be there.

So now we have to win every Super Bowl, while scoring over 30 points per game, or we're wasting Mahomes 'career.

Ok.

Dude, there is a HUGE gap between "being happy to be there" and "recognizing the NFL is cuttthroat and the Chiefs past five years are historically dynamic" ... a chasm, really.

Literally the only teams in NFL history to do as much or more than the Chiefs have over the past 5 years are as follows:

1. 1970s Steelers (best five-year period had 3 visits and 3 wins, six-year period with 4 wins. Also before free agency).
2. 2010s Patriots (3 wins in 4 trips)
3. Early 2000s Patriots (3 wins in 3 trips)
4. mid-90s Cowboys (3 wins in 3 trips)

So, at worst, it's already the 4th-5th best 5-year run in NFL history (and the 3rd best in the salary cap era). If the Chiefs were to, I don't know, make and win the Super Bowl again this year (a distinct possibility), you can make a case that it stands up with any five-year run in the modern era.

And shit, there are only like 2 other teams that even can look at a five-year period and point to 3 made super bowls. You've got the early 90s Bills (4 losses), and the early 1970s Dolphins (2-1).

Dominant teams over a long period of time can always do "What if" and look at potentially winning more.

A good friend of mine and Bulls fan casually pointed out after the Jordan dynasty documentary how close the Bulls were to winning 10 straight NBA titles.

- Year 0 - Pippen migraine holds him out of EC Game 7, Pistons win
- Year 1-3 - First 3-peat
- Year 4 - Jordan's dad gets murdered, he sits out in grief
- Year 5 - Jordan comes back mid-year but he never gets quite right
- Years 6-8 - Second 3-peat
- Year 9 - Jordan and crew eager to come back, Krause tears it down instead to try to prove he's a genius.

Thankfully, he doesn't sit around feeling sad for himself or complaining that Jordan was "wasted" because they didn't win every single year, even though they were close.

These are the good times. Try to find some enjoyment in them. Recognize that other teams are trying, too, and that the breaks aren't always on your team's side.

Question: If Eric Fisher's Achilles' holds up through most of the Super Bowl instead of most of the AFC title game, and the Chiefs win that one, would you be happy with 3 titles in 3 appearances in 5 years and back-to-back wins, or would you still be complaining about missing the 5-peat due to a coin flip and whatever the second half of the 21 AFC title game was?
