Last year with no defense, the great drew brees couldn't even carry his team. yet this year so far, with Sean Payton back, pretty much the same defense except for a "49ers back up lb" as clay called him, basically calling him a chump in Parys Harelson, and adding a rook in Kenny Viccaro, have one of the stingiest defenses in football right now, and the Saints are 3-0. Rob Ryan is also a huge part of that, I meant to list him.


The packers secondary is still awful, and despite the great Aaron Rodgers, his packers are 1-2.

What cost the Packers, and Broncos in the playoffs last year?

Rhahim Moore ring a bell? The Packers inability to stop the run? And the Saints set the record for pathetic last year giving up the most passing yards in the history of the NFL.

Did I say that the qbs had NOTHING to do with the wins. Of course they did. But in the end, it took their defenses having that crucial stop creating that turnover, and sealing the game. That's all I was saying......

Look at the playcalling in Q1-3 versus the 4th quarter.

In Q1-3, we're not running the ball often enough, and when we do, it's out of the ****ing pistol.

In Q4, we're running the ball 60-70% of the time, and using the FB.

If the OL was truly horrible, we wouldn't be running the ball worth a shit in the 4th quarter either.

Great post is great post. I think clearly the oline is more comfortable at this point in a traditional set where they can line up, with Sherman in front of Charles, and basically keep it simple. Alex Smith is more comfortable in that as well.

I am not sure who said it, but yeah, I mentioned that in the Chat on Thursday about how the Chiefs ran back to back playactions to the same side, and hadn't at all tried to establish the run. The playcalling, in the first three quarters was beyond ridiculous to me.

Didn't you just answer your own question? I don't know enough about Jamaal Charles to really make a statement on what he did in the past. But just judging from what I saw last Thursday alone, he seems to be much more productive when running behind Sherman, then when running read option crap.

Elite QB play is practically a prereq to win multiple playoff games, so when everyone has an elite QB at that point, yeah, stuff like defense and other factors come into play.

It's like in hockey, when people say defense and goaltending wins championships.... yet, practically every year it takes a top 10 offense to win the Cup. Why? Because once you get to the 2nd round of the playoffs, every team has great goaltending and defense.

Same thing with QBs... it's much easier to get there with elite QB play, or else you need to be elite at several other positions (such as an entire defense), and by the time you're playing for hardware, just about everyone has a great QB, so those teams need defense and other positions to make the difference.

It is not just rating- TD's and turnovers. 3-0 and has made big plays on the ground as well.
