Lol, sorry, but's it's true. You will end up with a number one seed in the playoffs, win your divisional round at least, and Alex will be back next season. Get used to him.
On the other hand, the success will start to win you over, and you will grudgingly begin to accept the inevitable. So it's not all bad.

You know, he is inching his way up in the rankings. No. 20. About 250 yards separates him from No. 10.

If they get swept by the Broncos, lose to the Colts, etc; and then go one and done in the playoffs, it's certainly not time to panic... but, it would obviously be disappointing if they turned around and signed Smith to a long term deal with no thought to drafting another QB, even if it would be just another Chiefs offseason.

But really, wouldn't you want to draft a QB anyway?

Yeah, it helps when QB's get hurt and miss some games, however I think Wilson and Newton also pass Alice up if they stay healthy. Of course right now that fact that some teams have had a bye week and some have not make that stat irrelevant. It's more about YPG and Alice is still 25th in that.

Yeah, that's been a dream of mine for about 20 years... live long enough to see the Chiefs draft a QB in the first round. When they picked up Smith, that was the best case scenario as far as I'm concerned... let Smith help bring the team back to respectability, knowing a QB will need to be drafted sooner than later. If Smith proves otherwise, it's not as urgent of a need obviously, but would still be nice.

Two second round picks wasn't the cost of a starting QB. It was the cost of a complete paradigm shift for the whole organization. I still hold out hope that a QB will be selected in the first round this year or next. |

Smith is struggling to put up great numbers, that's obvious. I can give him a pass against the Texans because this is a team that has the No 1 defense and held Russell Wilson to 12/23 for 123 and 1 pick. In fact Smith is the only QB this year to pass for over 200 yards against them IIRC.
That said, he's going to need to pick it up against some of the more mediocre defenses we play in the 2nd half of the season... |

One interesting question that will never be answered is if the Niners had drafted Aaron Rodgers instead of Alex Smith, whether they would have ruined him the way the Niners ruined Alex.

FWIW, I thought yesterday was our best offensive game all year. OL, QB, WR, RB's, TE's all the way around.

No doubt in my mind Aaron Rodgers would have been ruinned. Just like David Carr in Houston and Tim Couch in Cleveland.
