The Cleveland Browns' fire sale may yet continue as the team has reportedly made wide receiver Josh Gordon available.


According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns are willing to part with Gordon along with fellow wide receiver Greg Little:

ESPN's Adam Caplan adds that Gordon has actually been on the trade block for "several weeks":

Gordon is returning to the field in Week 3 after serving a two-game suspension at the start of the regular season, following a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. He came into the season with some lofty expectations after his rookie year, in which he caught 50 passes for 805 yards and five touchdowns.

This news is exactly what Browns fans won't want to hear. It comes the same week as Cleveland essentially gave up on the 2013 season just two weeks into the season, first naming Brian Hoyer the starting quarterback over the banged-up Brandon Weeden and backup Jason Campbell, and then trading Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts.

For a fanbase as tortured as the Browns' it will hurt to see yet another talented offensive player be pushed out the door.

Only 22 years old, Gordon will continue to improve, and he's the kind of player a team can build a receiving corps around. The fact that Cleveland is thinking about offoading him is arguably more surprising than the Richardson trade.

However, if Cleveland is really in rebuild mode, it would make sense to cash in now on its most marketable asset and prepare for the future. The trio of Joe Banner, Michael Lombardi and Rob Chudzinski have a definite direction they're taking this team. They're not afraid to burn some bridges in the short term if it helps the long term, either.

Only time will tell if the plan works out.

Is it really worth it to trade any picks for a player that will be done next year? As much as I get a man boner over Gonzalez as the next guy, I just don't see it being all that beneficial to waste any draft picks for a guy to play half a season. Trade for a younger guy, sure...

I think we could be a lot better with gordon than with Gonzalez potentially because of Gordon's speed and ability to separate. We could get by with Fasano.

But if we won't get gordon bring on gonzo

It would take way longer to get Gordon installed in this offense this season than it would to get Gonzalez involved.

Gordon would be awesome. Not sure how much cap space we have an all that jazz, but if it were feasible to trade for him, and be able to re-sign our big players as well as keep him, I don't see how you don't make a move for this kid. This offense is in dire need of playmakers, Jamaal Charles has more touches than any other player in the NFL right now.

If he's going to be any use to us in the playoffs, we've got to get the guy some help.

What makes Gordon to KC interesting is that he spent a year in Shumur's WCO. Typically, you don't see trades this late due to the amount of time it takes to get players caught up, especially on terminology if they're playing in a system they haven't been in before.

An intelligent poster might recognize that winning games with inferior talent left over from an incompetent previous administration is a sign of superior coaching on Reid's part. It's not the coach's job to lose games in order to demonstrate the talent deficit on the roster.

An idiot would say that winning games with mediocre players is a scam. Perhaps you would be more impressed if Reid simply called his players a pile of crap and kept right on losing.
