Yes it is kind of scary the power we have over men! It is sad that so many women nowadays don't get that.

Or maybe it's sad that it's still true? I've met a lot of women who claim to be staunchly "for" gender equality, but still expect men to do all sorts of very traditional things in a relationship. It's frustrating, and in my opinion, it actually sets women back in the long run.

I get the point you are making, but I don't think this is losing. In fact I saw the situation as an opportunity to collect where the friend failed.

as far as dating goes I say screw gender equality. I want a man that is going to step up and take care of me, and I in return will take care of him. At this point in my life I am so sick of all the crap I'm in charge of that if a good man comes along who wants to spoil me I am all for it, and I will find ways to spoil him. I also feel very strongly than allowing men to be men and take the lead in dating is essential to their well being. I guess that is what I mean so many wine nowadays don't want to just enjoy that.

This. She took some other dude home from the Halloween party the three of us attended. His closing skills were poor to nonexistent.

**** that. I have enough opportunities to "be a man" in my day-to-day life, and the last thing I want at the end of the day is for my best friend to act all dependent "for my well-being".

That was maybe not the best choice of words. I just mean it seems like men are happier when they get to take the lead. But based on what you said maybe I am totally wrong that that is not all men. I mean seriously that is why I'm on here, what the hell do I know about men!

I think that's the key. Just because I dislike the notion doesn't mean that there aren't some men who appreciate it. The same goes for women; there's nothing that's universally true about peoples' personalities.

Absolutely. I have been so independent all my life and I think I'm just now getting that I like men who are going to take the lead and it just allows me to enjoy things more when I don't have to be in charge. So as for me, screw gender equality in dating.

If I ever, god forbid, get divorced -I highly doubt I'll have the patience/tolerance to try the dating thing again.
OR, if I do, it'll occur by chance. I'll never approach a woman and ask her out.

You're a nice girl. Just go for what you want and tell that to the guys you date. Either they agree or they don't. Better to find out early as possible. Be yourself.
