I really wouldn't mind keeping smith here for another year after his contract is up as long as we are developing a franchise guy, but Smith will obviously want a longterm/big money deal.

Depending on how we do next season he will have ground to stand on for a long term extension that I won't want to give him. I doubt, as well, that he would take a 1 year contract.

Im not sure that would be the case. Aside of that he is the best QB you have had here in some time. He may not be explosive but he is very solid.
