If the draft were next week? Sure. The draft is still months away and we haven't had the combine, interviews, etc. For me, this is wishful thinking yet I still feel it's possible. Hell, by draft weekend the first 5 picks could go in the first 2 rounds or maybe some of them won't get picked until day 3. Who the hell knows?
Did anyone think a guy like Bray was going to be an UDFA at this point last year? Did anyone think Burfict was going to be an UDFA this time 2 years ago? Just having fun with this thing while my team is either golfing in Arizona or boozing in Miami as the playoffs continue on. |

At worst, Moncrief is a second/early 3rd rounder.

The Joe Don pick is awesome.
I still think you guys are insane thinking Tuitt is going to be there with the 23 pick. 6'7", 310 lbs. with 20 sacks over the last two seasons from the DT spot. That's nuts. I'd love the guy on the Chiefs but he might be a top five pick when it's all said and done. |

Bullshit. Tuitt had surgery last offseason and put on excess weight. He still hasn't lost all of it. The combine will tell us where he goes. If he shows up leaner and blows it up....then yeah he'll probably go in the top 15. But if he's still sitting at 315-320...he very well could fall to 23. The advisory board didn't give him a 2nd round grade for shits and giggles.

Skip the OT and get me another pass rush specialist or CB with that pick.
We can get a journeyman OT in free agency. |

If it's as you say, the guy showed up out of shape for the 2013 season, he still kicked ass with 7.5 sacks and all that went with it. Now, it (Tuitt/Nix) could be a Mario Williams/rest of the NC State Defensive line or Julius Peppers/Ryan Sims thing where you have one guy kicking the shit out of stuff and the other guy cleaning up on it, both get drafted high in the NFL Draft, but it's obvious early that it's the one guy versus two or more guys having that talent level, but I don't think Kelly would have put up such a bitch about Tuitt leaving early if he wasn't the keystone of that defense. I don't necessarily like him at the same stage as I did Michael Brockers for the five tech position, and it ultimately depends on what they do with Jackson in free agency, but Tuitt has a tremendous ceiling IMO. That being said, that's why the guy isn't going to be around when the Chiefs pick. No way, no how. If I was one of the teams picking in the top ten, I'd be very tempted to take him over anybody in this draft. I think Jake Matthews is the best player in this draft, and then you could make the argument that Tuitt is right there behind him. And the Joe Don pick is still awesome. Although, if I was picking a tight end around that area, Fresno State's Marcel Jensen is the guy. Huge, athletic and has a very high football IQ. |

And, to that point, I've watched a couple of games from the 2013 season highlighting Tuitt and he, frankly, struggled, especially against the better competition. Gets stood up easily in one on one matchups, isn't fluid at all in his pursuit, and despite his size, he doesn't exhibit very good functional strength. (I went back and watched some of his games from 2012, and he was definitely quicker two seasons ago versus last season, but he's not overpowering. He really doesn't possess a quality bull rush and gets stood up a lot at the point of attack. He did most of his damage when they lined him up wide, and he won't be afforded that luxury as a 34 five tech.) If you guys want this dude over Tyson Jackson, you are going to be severely disappointed. Tyson Jackson was a significantly better player at the same level and has become a very good run defender from the five tech. Tuitt is not going to be a pass rushing, pocket collapsing terror at the next level. He gets absolutely worked in the USC game: In fact, I think that the NFL advisory second round grade is about right and maybe generous. I don't think I'd take him as a 43 DT either and he's certainly not a 34 five tech. He might get away with a subpackage, third down guy, but we've already got Bailey and Catapano. Waste of a pick for the Chiefs IMO. |

Sorry man. I was initially going off what I saw from him in 2012 watching their games. While his 12 sacks were impressive, I think he benefitted from scheme and other players more than creating his own. Watching him this season, you noticed how stiff he plays/lack of fluidity and how he isn't very powerful in one on one matchups. For a guy of that size, he's more finesse than power and I don't think that bodes well for a guy projecting over to a five tech 34 defensive end. You've obviously got a better understanding of his game than I, so I'll just leave the objective analysis of Tuitt to your observations. However, my two cents are that he's not an upgrade to what we've already got on roster versus the WR's that will most likely be available when the Chiefs pick in the first round. |
