I don't have RTW2 yet because it's not out for Mac but I recently picked up the Mac version of the original RTW because I was jonesing. I played it on Windows for a few years when it first came out and it plays even better on the Mac.

Even though it was made in 2004/2005, I still find it to be one of the best games ever made for any platform. I've made a lot of modifications to make it harder/deeper but it's just a great game.

I've played every Total War game to come out since the OG Rome (never played the original Shogun). I liked Rome 2 quite a bit. They reworked the happiness systems completely to where it is really easy to grasp and control. It's almost like a currency. It is an excellent game just like all the previous iterations.

I talk up the Total War series all the time around these here parts, probably a top 5 franchise across all platforms for me. Just doesn't get much better than Total War. Out of the box AI issues keep these games from being perfect in my book.

Creative Assembly went a little too simple with the Shogun 2 game, it was the polar opposite of Medieval 2, which went freaking nuts with empire management.

Rome 2 strikes an amazing balance in that regard, IMO. Stylistically, it's also almost as amazing as Shogun 2, which had the best art direction of all TW games, IMO.

Anyway, if you're a TW fan, you owe it to yourself to play Rome 2.
