WR Emmanuel Sanders signs with Denver - Executives cry foul

Executives crying foul over Emmanuel Sanders deal

Emmanuel Sanders is expected to sign with the Broncos tomorrow, but the process that led him there left the other teams involved fuming and crying foul. One team official claimed Sanders' agent broke "every rule in negotiations."

Agent Steve Weinberg, on behalf of the receiver, accepted a deal with the Chiefs in principle, according to one team source. Weinberg then engaged in negotiations with the Tampa Bay Bucs, according to another source involved in the process.

While shopping the Chiefs offer to the Bucs, Weinberg never explained that he had already accepted the terms of Kansas City's offer. Later in the night, Sanders' agent had agreed to terms with the Broncos, which is where he is currently headed. Sanders and Weinberg also rankled the 49ers by agreeing to visit, then blowing it off.

"This was one of the worst situations in modern football negotiations," one executive involved said. "Totally wrong. This needs to be stopped."

Reached at his home late Saturday, Weinberg declined to comment on the record when informed of the allegations.

The Dallas-based agent was recently reinstated by the NFL Players Association, which had barred and decertified him in 2003 because it had reportedly found he diverted assets to an offshore account during a dispute with a partner and collecting a fee from a client prematurely. Weinberg later filed suit against the NFLPA and its top officials, alleging they illegally took away his certification for eight years, along with past, present and future income of clients.

Weinberg has two clients currently on NFL teams, not including Sanders. He had 42 before he was barred.

While Weinberg broke no laws in accepting a deal, the entire situation infuriated those he dealt with. It is commonly accepted in the league that once two sides agree to a deal -- in writing or in handshake form -- that's the end of the story. Instead, by Weinberg shopping the Chiefs deal and then not informing the Bucs that a deal had been reached showed another side of the business. It is unclear if the Broncos were aware of the previous actions.

"When a man gives you his words and pulls out," one executive said, "then gives another team your word and pulls out, then gives another team his word ... Not proper."

We've had a bunch of Canadian or Arena League guys come and go. Eventually one is going to stick. However, I doubt it will be Dressler.

Very amusing.
Different types of hate.

Clay (and I) hated Dex because he was a worthless midget that we pissed away a 2nd round pick on. Pioli/Haley/Romeo somehow convinced the media to constantly talk about his big play ability, but he had none. He had a stupid ****ing spin move. Dante Hall as he is right now could age another 10 years, gain 50 lbs, and he'd STILL be able to out-juke that dumbshit. Dex also wasn't even the fastest guy on the team. He was a smaller, lighter, soft bitchier, slower, less explosive version of Jamaal Charles as a RB and a misused and inexperienced WR. It pisses me off how many offensive downs we ****ing wasted trying to get the ball to that shitbag "in space, cuz he's a lightning bug!" We could have given those touches to Jamaal Charles, who would have actually made something out of the play. At least Reid was able to look at him and see his true value as a short-mid range possession receiver, and NOT some gadget guy who deserves specially designed plays. Ten bucks says our kick return game doesn't skip a single goddamn beat next year with whomever we bring in. With Dave Toub, we could probably run Mike ****ing DeVito on kick returns and he'd score a TD at some point in the season.

That's different from why I hate Dressler. I hate Dressler because I've actually SEEN HIM PLAY. Not just in youtube highlight reels. I've watched most of his college games. And he's not good enough for the NFL. Period. The only good thing about him is that we've invested nothing in him instead of a draft pick.

McCluster had nine career touchdowns and ten career fumbles lost. He was JAG, in spite of what Tex would have you believe.

A person with knowledge of the situation told The Star that ex-Steelers receiver Emmanuel Sanders arrived in Kansas City around 1 p.m. and will spend the night here before leaving for San Francisco on Saturday to visit the 49ers. The news of Sanders’ San Francisco visit was first reported by several national writers, including Ian Rapoport of NFL.com and the Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

What it means: Sanders has already visited Jacksonville and Tampa Bay and has another visit set up Saturday, but the Chiefs have a chance to keep him from leaving if they come correct with an offer. From what I’ve been told from multiple places, the Chiefs have been pretty frugal with their offers thus far, but there is a market for Sanders so if they’re bringing him in for a visit, they must at least be in the ballpark with the numbers.

Keep an eye on this situation, folks. Teams don’t bring guys in unless they’re serious, and it would be wise for the Chiefs to ante up with an offer that allows them to bring in an experienced No. 2 receiver without spending a first-round draft pick on one. He caught 67 passes for 740 yards and six touchdowns last season, which isn’t that far off from the numbers Golden Tate put up (64 catches for 898 yards and five touchdowns) last year in Seattle.

Tate, 25, proceeded to receive a five-year deal from Detroit reportedly worth $31 million, including $13 million guaranteed. Sanders, who turns 27 in a few days, probably won’t get that but maybe he’ll get something in the vicinity. The Chiefs don’t have a ton of cap space this year but remember, NFL teams can fit almost anyone under the cap for the first year by giving the player a low base salary and a high signing bonus.

I think Teicher covers the Chiefs for ESPN now, or some other national pub.

You're the type who hides behind skewed stats to "prove" a point. When did he get most of his TD's, receiving yards, return yards? Year 1 of Reid. Was KC in the top of the league in starting field position? Do the math. FACT is dude is trending upward. Present the whole story and you might learn something...
