WR Emmanuel Sanders signs with Denver - Executives cry foul

Executives crying foul over Emmanuel Sanders deal

Emmanuel Sanders is expected to sign with the Broncos tomorrow, but the process that led him there left the other teams involved fuming and crying foul. One team official claimed Sanders' agent broke "every rule in negotiations."

Agent Steve Weinberg, on behalf of the receiver, accepted a deal with the Chiefs in principle, according to one team source. Weinberg then engaged in negotiations with the Tampa Bay Bucs, according to another source involved in the process.

While shopping the Chiefs offer to the Bucs, Weinberg never explained that he had already accepted the terms of Kansas City's offer. Later in the night, Sanders' agent had agreed to terms with the Broncos, which is where he is currently headed. Sanders and Weinberg also rankled the 49ers by agreeing to visit, then blowing it off.

"This was one of the worst situations in modern football negotiations," one executive involved said. "Totally wrong. This needs to be stopped."

Reached at his home late Saturday, Weinberg declined to comment on the record when informed of the allegations.

The Dallas-based agent was recently reinstated by the NFL Players Association, which had barred and decertified him in 2003 because it had reportedly found he diverted assets to an offshore account during a dispute with a partner and collecting a fee from a client prematurely. Weinberg later filed suit against the NFLPA and its top officials, alleging they illegally took away his certification for eight years, along with past, present and future income of clients.

Weinberg has two clients currently on NFL teams, not including Sanders. He had 42 before he was barred.

While Weinberg broke no laws in accepting a deal, the entire situation infuriated those he dealt with. It is commonly accepted in the league that once two sides agree to a deal -- in writing or in handshake form -- that's the end of the story. Instead, by Weinberg shopping the Chiefs deal and then not informing the Bucs that a deal had been reached showed another side of the business. It is unclear if the Broncos were aware of the previous actions.

"When a man gives you his words and pulls out," one executive said, "then gives another team your word and pulls out, then gives another team his word ... Not proper."

If Emmanuel Sanders knocks Avery off the roster - I'll never forgive him, wouldn't you be mad?

If Avery plays here next season - you all are going to be pleased - he was coming into his own toward closing of the season last year - he had that catch against Indy and another one in regular season that were both bauce as all hell.

I really have a funny feeling about it/him.

Let's see what happens (hopefully)

I don't think Avery and Sanders are mutually exclusive. We are a pass heavy offense.

That 1 catch against Indy where he burned an injured player.

The guy has bounced around his whole career and has been plagued with drops. The sooner he is gone the better.

it's my funny feeling - you make have nailed his diagnosis - but I want to see what he can do w/ Alex year 2 - besides he pwnd that guy so bad that he would have STILL pwnt him - had dude been 100% - I mean it was an ax murder of a catch - that corner may have needed grief counseling afterward.

Go watch that indy game 10,000 more times. You should be able to see the importance of the FS position.

What have you seen from Commings to ease your mind?

Counting on a guy coming off an injury who has never seen the field should make the chiefs lose sleep at night.

Cummings and Abdullah will hopefully grow more as backups, but a lot of Chiefs fans see that starter FS job as a glaring weakness since the 3rd qtr of that playoff loss.

Not a thing.

But there isn't really anything at the FS postion in this draft past Clinton-Dix, at least at this point, though Ed Reynolds seems to be okay and I wouldn't mind spending a sixth on someone like Ty Zimmerman.

But there is the 90% likelihood that Clinton-Dix is gone by the time we select.

You had better start hoping that Commings studied hard during his recovery and is ready to kick ass, because between him and Abdullah, that's your FS options in 2014.

I am tired of helping fans sleep at night because we throw money to fix the problem. The idea that a person hasn't seen the field, therefore they can't be a solution, is the kind of safe BS that has gotten us into trouble time and time again.

I don't know if Commings is the answer. But if they like what they see, I'm okay with giving him a real opportunity to compete for the job.
