WR Emmanuel Sanders signs with Denver - Executives cry foul

Executives crying foul over Emmanuel Sanders deal

Emmanuel Sanders is expected to sign with the Broncos tomorrow, but the process that led him there left the other teams involved fuming and crying foul. One team official claimed Sanders' agent broke "every rule in negotiations."

Agent Steve Weinberg, on behalf of the receiver, accepted a deal with the Chiefs in principle, according to one team source. Weinberg then engaged in negotiations with the Tampa Bay Bucs, according to another source involved in the process.

While shopping the Chiefs offer to the Bucs, Weinberg never explained that he had already accepted the terms of Kansas City's offer. Later in the night, Sanders' agent had agreed to terms with the Broncos, which is where he is currently headed. Sanders and Weinberg also rankled the 49ers by agreeing to visit, then blowing it off.

"This was one of the worst situations in modern football negotiations," one executive involved said. "Totally wrong. This needs to be stopped."

Reached at his home late Saturday, Weinberg declined to comment on the record when informed of the allegations.

The Dallas-based agent was recently reinstated by the NFL Players Association, which had barred and decertified him in 2003 because it had reportedly found he diverted assets to an offshore account during a dispute with a partner and collecting a fee from a client prematurely. Weinberg later filed suit against the NFLPA and its top officials, alleging they illegally took away his certification for eight years, along with past, present and future income of clients.

Weinberg has two clients currently on NFL teams, not including Sanders. He had 42 before he was barred.

While Weinberg broke no laws in accepting a deal, the entire situation infuriated those he dealt with. It is commonly accepted in the league that once two sides agree to a deal -- in writing or in handshake form -- that's the end of the story. Instead, by Weinberg shopping the Chiefs deal and then not informing the Bucs that a deal had been reached showed another side of the business. It is unclear if the Broncos were aware of the previous actions.

"When a man gives you his words and pulls out," one executive said, "then gives another team your word and pulls out, then gives another team his word ... Not proper."

And they just quit after that? What kind of bullshit is that? We're obviously not signing any of the big names but now we're not even signing for depth and competition. This team has shit for depth and by this point the contracts being given out are starting to become reasonable. We're still sitting on the sidelines.

Yes, they obviously quit because they didn't sign anybody on Sunday.

If their plan is to build a team on value free agents and the draft, then this is only a small setback. If the chiefs really wanted Sanders they would have offered him the moon and signed him a long time ago. Sanders took a long time to sign because nobody was offering him that. He is a slot receiver. The chiefs will move on. And they currently have plenty of competition, the draft, and stopgaps like James Jones or avant who can fill in for a year or two. It stings but the idea that this is devastating is silly.

It's really funny that just last playoffs... Aqib Talib was bitching about that illegal pick play that got him injured from Wes Welker... Now he wants to join that shit?

Welcome back...You missed the mass suicide event Saturday evening and that continued well into the day yesterday... You also missed the reappearance of every donkey douche-boy that's been laying low since 43-8... (still funny) I posted Friday evening in jest on this thread that the reason it was taking so long was that he probably signed with Denver - turned out to be true. YIKES! Just had this feeling that the Chiefs were being used... Gonna try my luck in Vegas next weekend though it's probably just that Chiefs BAD LUCK overrules any good luck that I might have...

It really could have happened to any team. Just bad luck that it was the Chiefs. And crushing coincidence it was the Broncos where he ended up.

I just hope they have a backup plan. WR is pretty deep in both FA and the draft.

Knowmo is still gone.

More importantly, so is MagicHef, who totally welched on his bet against me by not making a single goddamn post during the time he was supposed to craft each post as an ode to Todd Collins.

Those two Donkey douche boys are still missing, and they're the most important.

You're right - When they come back, and they will especially with the overwhelming advantage Denver appears to have on KC next season, they ought to be banned for awhile for pure douchery while dishing it out and not being able to take it.

What? You even quoted one of my posts with a Collins poem. Sure, it's not like I was posting all the time, but I'm not exactly the most prolific poster around here anyway.
