*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*
Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!
No one else started it so here it is! **From the 2013 Thread** If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs If you have questions about the SS programs, look here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started. Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE: http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point. |

Has anyone juiced? Not steroids. Lol. Pros/cons? My fiancée and I have been juicing as meal replacements -- usually a protein for dinner.
I recall a thread with some recipes, or maybe they were in here. |

I prefer using a Ninja rather than a true juice extractor because I want to get the fiber along with everything else. I love it. I make a smoothie in the evening and have that instead of a dessert or a snack. I put a handful of berries, an apple, a banana, kale, carrots, a shot of pure cranberry juice, and a scoop of whey protein in the Ninja and let it rip. It is very good.

Well the juicer was a gift.
But, the ninja looks pretty BA though. We've been mostly doing an apple, strawberries, spinach, blueberries and an orange. It's awesome. |

My wife drinks a juice a few times a week as a meal replacement, and she's seen good results. I'm like Omaha and prefer a "smoothie" from our blender.

Ah. I find the trial & error is the most fun way to figure it out. I bought a couple of recipe books on Amazon Kindle for about $3 each and they are really cool, but I have more fun just throwing things in there & figuring out what I like.

Doesn't juicing usually result in higher carb intake? And shouldn't people get protein more than one meal per day?

![]() My fiancée is a Pinterest whore, so we've been scouring through that. I just wanted to get some feedback from CP. And, I'm about to hit up Hyvee so we can play mad scientist this evening. I've had the juicer for two years. We recently decided to try it out after watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead on netflix. Great documentary for those who have not seen it. |

Hey guys and gals!
I've lurked this thread for awhile and never had the guts to post, but now I do. I've fought weight my whole life. There are so many aspects to it, but the bottom line is that I haven't been able to get over the hump and stay there. I'll avoid book writing but just give you the bullet points: -Once weighed 385 pounds. -Auditioned for "Biggest Loser", made it to the final cut where I had permission from my employer to take 17 weeks off, family was good to go. -Didn't make the final cut. -As a promise to my wife, I hit the gym, changed the way I ate, and got down to 270 pounds. -Got lazy, stupid, and ultra fat again. -Developed a condition in my foot that required complete reconstruction of my Achilles tendon. -At my pre-surgical appointment, I weighed *gulp* 417 pounds. -Had the surgery, got really depressed, and almost gave up. -Got motivated and now am at it again with changing the way I eat (calories in < calories out) and now I'm at 380. -I ride the stationary bike every morning (intense) and am dropping about 5 pounds a week. I'll update as I weigh in, but I need the accountability but like the idea of it being in here. Appreciate your honesty and encouragement. I can't afford to go back again. I have to make this stick and last for the rest of my life or there won't be much life left. Fortunately I've avoided diabetes/heart problems to this point and want to keep it that way. Thanks again. |

![]() Honestly I had the best luck buying frozen fruit and throwing it in the blender. Then you don't have to deal with ice chunks or any of that crap. Most of the fruit blends work pretty well. I'm sure fresh tastes better but it's hard to get decent fresh fruit in bum **** nowhere. EDIT in what world would autocorrect think it would be OK to correct anything to "chin ks". I think autocorrect wants me banned. PS. Don't ban me bro. |

I would do the steroids before I 'juiced'. Juicing is an easy way to get vitamins in but also a really easy way to consume way more calories than needed. The fiber in whole fruits/vegetables is just as important if not more important then the vitamins and minerals and you don't get that with a juicer.
