Hoiberg is an above average coach. He's the kind of guy that would probably do pretty well at a real basketball school.

He's building Iowa State into a real basketball school. He took over a shit show and took them to the tournament three straight years. They entered the rankings early and stayed ranked all year. They will start ranked and stay ranked next year. This team is loaded and just getting better, the top players will start coming. That shit doesn't just happen instantly at a school like Iowa State for a first time HC.

I don't think anyone here thinks Fred is a bad coach. He's a good coach. But jesus christ, get a freaking grip. ![]() Everything you are posting is speculation and opinion by the most biased fan of a sports team I've ever witnessed... I actually kind of feel sorry for you. You want to be elite soooooo bad, that in your own mind you've distorted reality.

It's happening. Better team next year than we were this year. Sure you can say I've said it every year under Fred, but I've been right every year also.

Time to reposition Tharpe from "Returning" to "Departure".

Naadir Tharpe leaving Kansas
Updated: May 1, 2014, 3:30 PM ET ESPN.com news services RECOMMEND0TWEET0COMMENTS0EMAILPRINT LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kansas starting point guard Naadir Tharpe will transfer closer to home for his final season of eligibility, ending a tumultuous run with the Jayhawks that included three Big 12 championships and multiple off-court distractions. The Massachusetts native said in a statement issued by the school Thursday that he made the decision to transfer so he could be closer to his daughter, Amara. She was born during his freshman season, and Tharpe said she has been dealing with medical issues that require regular visits to doctors. [+] EnlargeNaadir Tharpe Jamie Squire/Getty Images Naadir Tharpe is transferring to play his senior season closer to home, ending a tumultuous run with the Jayhawks that included three Big 12 titles and multiple off-court distractions. "It's going to be tough leaving a situation like this because of the teammates I'm leaving behind,'' Tharpe said. "At this juncture, I feel it is best to be closer to home where I can assist and support in any way necessary.'' Kansas coach Bill Self said Amara is "doing very well now,'' but Tharpe thought it was best to transfer closer to her. It's not clear what school he'll attend. "Naadir and I have talked numerous times since he's been here about his role and about his situation back home with his daughter,'' Self said. "This is his decision.'' Tharpe drew Self's ire before the season when he played in an unauthorized summer league game, which resulted in a one-game suspension. After the season, he was seen with a partially nude woman in a photograph circulated on social media that prompted Self to say he was "extremely disappointed with what's transpired and the judgment that went along with it.'' On the court, where Tharpe showed flashes of brilliance mixed with moments of frustration. He was honorable mention All-Big 12, averaging 8.5 points and 5.0 assists as Kansas finished with a 25-10 record, but struggled in a loss to Stanford in the third round of the NCAA tournament. At one point in the season, Self replaced Tharpe with freshman Frank Mason in the starting lineup. Tharpe regained his starting job a few games later. "I certainly appreciate all of his efforts since he's been here,'' Self said. "Naadir has been a good player for us in his three years here. But we also respect the fact that he wants to be closer to his daughter and we want to do everything we can to support that.'' The Jayhawks have plenty of depth in the backcourt, though Mason is the only prototypical point guard. Wayne Selden Jr. and Conner Frankamp also could play the position, though Selden is a slashing scorer and Frankamp a 3-point threat, both better suited to shooting guard. Tharpe's departure could sway Devonte Graham, the top unsigned player in the 2014 class, to choose Kansas. The 6-2 guard narrowed his choices Wednesday to the Jayhawks and North Carolina State, though it's unknown when he plans to make a decision. Graham played at Brewster Academy, the same prep school as Tharpe. The Jayhawks only have two members in its upcoming recruiting class _ 6-foot-8 forward Cliff Alexander, the Naismith player of the year, and 6-7 swingman Kelly Oubre. But both are five-star prospects who shined in the McDonald's All-American game. Kansas missed out on a commitment this week from 6-11 center Myles Turner, a top-10 prospect who chose Big 12 rival Texas. Turner would have helped Kansas compensate for the loss of 7-footer Joel Embiid, who declared for the NBA draft after his freshman season. ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Graham narrows list to N.C. State and Kansas
By Joe Giglio jgiglio@newsobserver.com Posted: Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2014 GAD26S6RJ.4 GREG MINTEL - newsobserver.com Former Broughton point guard Devonte’ Graham will play college basketball next season at NC State or Kansas. Store Former Broughton High School guard Devonte’ Graham narrowed his college choice on Wednesday to N.C. State or Kansas. After a drawn-out ordeal with Appalachian State and a season at prep school, Graham’s AAU coach Dwayne West just wants the 6-foot-2 point guard from Raleigh to take his time. “He needs to be diligent in his decision and let the process take its course,” said West, Graham’s coach with Garner Road Basketball Club. “He didn’t do that last time.” Graham committed to Appalachian State before his senior season at Broughton in October 2012. Unranked by the major scouting services and a bit undersized, Graham got “nervous,” West said, and jumped at the first offer from Appalachian State. Graham’s stock rose during his senior season at Broughton. He led the Caps to the state championship game. In February 2013, he said he told former Appalachian State coach Jason Capel he wanted to be let out of his National Letter of Intent. Capel declined. Last September, Capel and Appalachian State accused N.C. State of tampering with Graham. Nothing ever came of the allegation with the NCAA. Graham, who could not be reached Wednesday, played at Broughton with Cameron Gottfried, the son of N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried. Graham never enrolled at Appalachian State and spent a prep season at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. After another strong season, Graham’s stock has risen again. Rivals, which includes post-graduates in its class of 2014 rankings, has Graham at No. 36 – the top uncommitted recruit in the class. Capel was fired by Appalachian State in early March and former Davidson assistant Jim Fox was hired on April 8. Shortly after, Fox granted Graham his release. The release means Graham can play immediately and will have four seasons of eligibility. Since his release, Graham, who is 175 pounds, has been pursued by Kansas, N.C. State, Virginia, Providence and Virginia Tech. Graham visited Kansas, N.C. State and Virginia before cutting his list to the final two. N.C. State returns sophomore point guard Cat Barber but lost point guard Tyler Lewis, who transferred to Butler. Alabama transfer Trevor Lacey is expected to start with Barber and share some of the ball-handling responsibilities, but that leaves Gottfried thin in depth next season. Graham would be in a similar role at Kansas, where senior starter Naadir Tharpe returns, as does sophomore Frank Mason. West described Graham as a “true point guard” who has a special ability to score. Graham has gotten bigger since leaving Broughton almost a year ago, West said, but his real development is with his confidence level. “He has an understanding of what level he can play and compete at that he didn’t before,” West said. “The season at Brewster confirmed to him the reason he made the original decision (to leave Appalachian State).” West said he expects Graham to decide within the next two weeks. In losing Tharpe we may be losing a guy who was frustrating to watch for us fans, but we're also losing program reps. A guy who's been in almost every situation and knows what Bill Self wants (even if he couldn't always do it).
A lot of people disliked Tyshawn and his inconsistency and antics before he had a really good senior season. I'm sad we won't get to see if Tharpe can replicate that.

So why would Graham choose NC State over KU now?
If i was a coach i would recurit a good 3* PG red shirt him the first year let him play a little bit year 2. Experienced point guards are underrated And unless the kid is Derek Rose it never seems to workout for young point guards. |

IIRC, Tharpe was the 93rd ranked PG in the nation. Graham is the 36th ranked player OVERALL.
