Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started. Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. If anything I'm continuing to work my arms and back just like I'm doing with the lat pull down. Doing a pull up is not a short term goal, but that doesn't mean I can't make up short term goals that will help me to eventually do something like that. And, in the process I'm doing those things that will also help me lose weight and build muscle.

It's just very unrealistic for most women to be able to do an actual chin-up without assistance. I meant nothing other than that.

I wouldn't go that far. I can see his point. I just don't see anything wrong with making it a long term goal whenever there are things I can do to work towards that goal that I can also benefit from in my current long and short term goals. I'm not doing the bands every week. Just occasionally to check progress.

The "squeeze" at the end to get above the bar is similar to that ofwhen I'm finishing a difficult pulldown.
