I had an annoying situation involving alcohol at my ex girlfriend's birthday last year.

We were out with a large group of her friends, a lot of whom I had never met. She started getting really sloppy so I pulled her aside and told her to try to be more aware of what was happening. Of course she got all pissed off and pouted for the rest of the night. She started telling all her friends I was an asshole and didn't like nor care about her (wtf!? ).

So here I am with a big ass group of people that I don't even know that think I'm a huge douchebag. It was a horrible night.

She wasn't even a drinker and thankfully that was the only time something like that happened. I couldn't imagine dealing with it on a consistent basis.

My girlfriend went to the same party with her girlfriends (very small town so our entertainment options were limited). It was during wrestling season so I wasn't drinking. My girlfriend got drunk and towards the end of the evening she was getting ready to drive home. I knew she had been drinking and shouldn't be driving, but instead of doing the right thing and either drive her home or at the very least not let her drive I just told her to be careful. She pulled out in front of a semi on her way home and her and the two girls with her were killed instantly. I'll never forgive myself for that.

That explains it then. Now I can understand why you feel the way you do.

That's rough - sorry you had to go through that. I'm sure that you've been told so before, but you can't blame yourself for other people's mistakes. Her decision was based on a number of things, and your opinion was only one of them.

I'll usually offer to walk someone home if I can or buy them a cab if they refuse to pay for one themselves, since I'm not usually comfortable driving unless I know for certain that I'm sober.

I've been through all the stages anyone goes through when something like that happens. Initially I blamed myself, then I was angry at the person who bought them the alcohol, and then I was angry at her for driving drunk. It was definitely the darkest period of my life and still affects me to this day and that happened 24 years ago.

I drink almost every weekend either with friends or just me and the wife sitting on the deck enjoying each other's company, but I never drive anywhere if I've been drinking. I guess it's not fair to hold others to such rigid standards, but it's impossible for me to shut off my feelings when it comes to this subject.

Move on, dude. Rejection blows, but you have to remember that there's no point in reminiscing on a failed attempt. Be the best person you can be (without compromising for anybody else's expectations) and eventually a woman will come along with whom you share genuine affection and respect.

Unlikely.

Mike Moustakas has a better chance of being a Hall of Fame 3rd Baseman than I do of having any of that happening.
