Just accept the fact that we will overpay for Smith and move on.
It's the Chiefs. It's what we do.

You have a better chance at building a good team and then finding a solid QB to fit into your system than you would at finding the next Peyton Manning and having him turn your entire franchise around. |

How many years are we talking about for Smith? 3 at 18 per? Fine, whatever.

The Jets already have a circus on their hands, let's pay $18M a season and give up on the guy we just drafted and the guy we literally just signed as a FA? You're reaching, bug time. |

And it's the Jets. Vick is on a 1 year deal IIRC. |

You can draft your QB and build around him as well. Neither way is proven 100 percent. There's many ways to build a winner in the NFL. |

If your draftee turns into a middle-of-the-pack guy, you ride him (while putting the best team around him that you can) and then cycle to a new guy when he gets to the point he wants huge money. Ideally, you'd continually invest in the position until you get it right with a star, and then keep them forever.

Bengals would have a better chance at winning a Superbowl right now with Smith than they would with Dalton as their starter, that's for sure. They have everything except for a QB who can handle the play-off heat.

But there are too many factors involved there. It's somewhat of an inverse principle that if you continually invest in said position (I'd imagine you'd want it to be high draft picks) you're going to find it tougher build a better team there. |

Good luck selling that to Bills fans. Remember that guy we took 16th overall last year - the guy we sold you as the future of the franchise? Well, **** him. We're paying $18M for a 30 year old that played 6 good games in KC last season. |

Again, as much as we all want that superstar QB on a cheap rookie deal like Luck, or even on a monster deal like Rodgers as they cover up so much, in todays NFL, it's proven that you don't necessarily need that guy to be successful.
Seems to be more "get a guy that's fit for our system, build around him while continually looking for the next guy". I dunno. I just don't think there's that much of a gap today between the 15th best Qb in the league and the 8th like there once was. Obviously it's easier to win with a better QB, but it doesn't seem to be the multiplying factor it used to be. |
