I can see no good reason why Reid would risk Smith by playing him an entire half in the 2nd pre-season game. Let Bray and Murray go out there and sling it. Why not try to find out what you have?

To allow a starter to get game reps in order to be ready for the season?

Why play any starters at all in the preseason?

All of this. Plus I thought teams usually extend out in game two, then really extend game three.
