Maybe they want to evaluate the WR/TE position a little closer, in game action, while working with Smith at the helm.

Against 2nd team, or worse, defensive players? Not sure what you gain there. I guess they get a 'feel' for each other and such. Is the risk in a totally meaningless game worth it?

I would say yes, the risk is worth it. We have a young/new offensive line. We have a lot of decisions to make at the receiver position. And, we have to be firing on all cylinders right out of the gate come regular season time. Play a lot this week, and next week. Then let the back end of the roster have game 4.

He played the 1st half of game 2 against the 49ers last year too. Not a big issue IMO.
