Well, here's one sure answer as to why Cain wasn't among the finalists--he wasn't qualified.
I ran across an article about the Gold Glove award, which is run by Rawlings. It said that the Gold Glove rules are that a player must have played 95 games and 713 innings at his position by the 141st game of the season. By the 141st game, Cain only had 77 games in Center and 609 innings, so he was well short in both categories. For the whole season he only had 93 games and 723 innings. And, there's your explanation. He just didn't play enough in center, and it wasn't just shifting over to right in the later innings. He was well short of the games requirement. |
