I voted no. While I think that robots will take over most or all work, I think this is something that humans will always want to do. So I think that AI might be able to do it, but I don't think humans will choose to cede the responsibility to them.

Well, good point.

It's interesting to me that early presidents had so little security, but the first assassination took 16 presidents. Were there just fewer loonies back then, or were they too busy farming and moving west to waste time shooting a president? Or were presidents just a whole lot more popular back then?

I'm guessing government interference in the everyday life of those in the 1800's was a decent bit less than that we see in today's society. But I could be wrong.

I think a couple things contributed to the increase in nut actions. Presidents weren't that important in the early days in terms of affecting the lives of everyday Americans. It would be like assassinating a town council member today. Plus the media experiences were rather isolated rather than the shared experiences we have today. What is the payoff of people finding out about your loon event over a period of several days? You aren't likely to be able to see many peoples reaction to it. In the olden days, the loons most likely derived their pleasure by screwing with their neighbors and watching how it affected them and the community.

I could be very wrong on this, but I think I've read that they can get DIA from fossils, but right now there's some issue where they can't clone it. But I think I remember reading that it's just a matter of finding the right fossil that doesn't have the issue.

I'm wondering too if perhaps there was a simple geographic issue. If you were a loon living in Georgia, it was going to take you a fair bit of time to travel to DC, and travel was hard in those days. Plus, the president was probably more abstract when he was just a name in the newspaper (assuming that you could even read the newspaper).

And I would agree that the federal government was probably more distant from everyday lives back then, and that there was no real payoff in terms of gaining infamy.
