According to the report, the league sources say the NFL determined 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots were under-inflated by two pounds per square inch each. Per NFL rules, footballs are required to be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 PSI and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

2007: Mangini (former Patriot employee) gets tired of losing to NE ... turns them in for cheating tactics they used FOR YEARS while Mangini was an employee.

NFL: Uh oh.

Patriots: **** that guy! Trader.

It snowballs. People start coming forward.

Full investigation launches.

Gets to Goodell. It's bad. REALLLLLLLLY BAD. A team that has just won 3 Super Bowls in 5 years cheated. Really terribly cheated. New commissioner. Biggest sport in America by far.

Story spirals out of control. Public wants to know answers. How bad did they cheat?

The NFL and Goodell knows it can never get out. They don't want the integrity of the game challenged. How can they nip this one in the bud??!

Easy. Destroy the evidence. Levy fines and make the Pats forfeit a draft pick. Easy. Don't let the public ever know what happened ... but let them know the Pats were punished and eventually everyone will forget and no one will care.

After bountygate, I expect Belichick to serve a lengthy suspension.

How can they not suspend BB for AT LEAST A YEAR while docking them more in draft picks and cash than last time?

Look at what they did to Sean Peyton and the Saints.....when they didn't even break the rules.

Ray Rice...for off the field stuff that hurts the image of the sport

Adrian Peterson...for off field stuff that hurts the image of the game

The Patriots have consistently cheated for 15 years...the league needs to make them an example that this kind of thing won't be tolerated whatsoever.

You guys had to sit Brady down because the whooping was so pronounced.

Cheating hurts the image of the sport WAYYYY worse than what Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson did and they basically got their careers ended for stuff they did off the field away from the game.

If the league doesn't throw the book at them this time, every team in the NFL will get the message that cheating is perfectly acceptable.

You know what I'd like to see?

Tapes of the Pats walkthroughs, signals and other practices stolen from them and forwarded to the Seahawks with a note letting them know it's ok for them to bend any rule they like for the upcoming Super Bowl as long as it doesn't show up on the tv screen and to make no hesitation to let the refs know of anything out of the ordinary the pats do and that everything will be taken seriously and that the refs will be looking for reasons to throw flags against NE in the game while Seattle will have to blatantly break the rules to have calls go against them.

Then, hours after the game the breaking news that the Patriots will be without BB due to a year long suspension and that they have surrendered their entire 2015 draft and that BB will be fined his whole 2014 salary and the organization will be fined an additional 5 million.

They NEED to make the punishment SO SEVERE that teams will do away with any thought of cheating in any way in the future.

Every former QB interviewed has come out and stated that ball prep is solely between the QB and equipment manager.

I'm probably in the minority but don't think BB should be penalized. Brady - yes. I mean, he couldn't even come out and say he didn't cheat. He danced.

For cheating in a Championship game the penalty should be severe. Brady should miss 6 games next year without pay and the team should pay a hefty fine and the team should lose a first, second and third this year and first the year after.

We all know that isn't going to happen. Kraft and Goodell are joined at the lips.

After all that nonsense with Bountygate and Roger's tough talk about penalizing players trying to take players out and advocating dirty play, what did he do this week to Browner who came out and said he told his teammates to break Sherman's arm? That's right - nothing. But, the league was quick to warn Lynch that not only would he be fined, but the team penalized if his hand goes anywhere near his crotch. Double standards abound.
