According to the report, the league sources say the NFL determined 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots were under-inflated by two pounds per square inch each. Per NFL rules, footballs are required to be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 PSI and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

You are correct. However, the refs "checked" the balls, and without logging the pressures, we don't know whether they were in line or not. So it leaves out a pretty key part of the "evidence" against the Pats.

But they did check. We don't know if they checked the pressure, since they didn't log it. But they definitely checked the balls, deemed them legal, and gave them back to the Pats. Without evidence of the pressure prior to that, you can't say for sure whether they were deflated after the fact.

Unless it's logged before every game, without fail, including Austin's temp. reading, it really doesn't matter.

Teams have a responsibility to throw a ball that fit the standards. They did not fulfill their responsibilities. Thus they are cheaters. Accidental cheating happens. You slip, the dick falls in. It's fine.

It should be logged, if it's going to be made into a "gate" after the fact. It should be logged, especially if it is a part of a "gotcha" against a team that had been accused of this prior.

That said, the patriots probably did deflate the balls. I'm just saying you can't argue for any punishment, now, because who is to say that the refs didn't approve balls that were already deflated?
