Two years ago the Dolphins signed speedster Mike Wallace to a 5 year, 60 million dollar contract with 30 million guaranteed, he is already on his way out. Wallace’s play has been fine, but fine does not equate to the truly gargantuan contract that he signed in 2013. Reports have been flying out of Miami, that the Dolphins are looking to trade their number 1 receiver, but his contract makes that highly unlikely. That’s not to mention his diva mentality, strong wide receiver market, and the fact that he is a one trick pony. What made Wallace so successful in Pittsburgh was the arm strength of Ben Roethlisberger, a quality that Dolphins Quarterback Ryan Tannehill does not possess. A true deep threat, Wallace’s talents are severely underutilized by his Quarterback’s lack of a successful deep ball. Since coming to Miami, Wallace’s yards per reception average has dropped from 17.25 to 12.8, virtually eliminating what makes Wallace a special talent.

He has also been called out by teammates for taking plays off, taking himself out of games, and not putting enough effort into his on field play. While Miami’s receiving corps is lacking in true playmakers outside of Wallace, he may no longer be worth the headache and the money. He did however tie his career high in touchdowns last season, with 10, but nevertheless 10 touchdowns and 862 yards are not worth 12 million per year.

The question becomes, will any team make a play for the diva wide receiver with a hefty contract? Probably not. But if the Dolphins truly want to trade him, there are 3 teams that are desperate for playmakers, and have enough cap space to take on the remainder of his deal.

The Jaguars, Raiders and Browns, are all desperate for offensive help, and each team has over 49 million in available cap space. The Dolphins will be hoping to net a third rounder, but in all likelihood, they wont be able to net more than a 5th. If the late great Al Davis was still around, (a speed lover) it would be a forgone conclusion that Wallace would be on his way to the Blackhole.

One thing is all but certain however, Mike Wallace’s time in Miami is over.

He and Tannehill were rarely on the same page (largely Tannehill's fault), and the lousy offensive playcalling on that team didn't help, either.
