PB, my assumption as per Self's apparent "lack of fire" this year was that he knew this team didn't have IT. He tried to get the team to play a certain way, but they were simply unable to perform how he wanted them to. Anyway, I'm not sure I'd categorize it as the coach lacked fire; rather this team simply wouldn't or couldn't respond.

Also, some recent comments by players as per how Coach would tell them to run a play or do something a certain way on the court, and the players would just "forget" to do it. As I've said before, this team does not have a high bball IQ. I wonder if Self just got fed up with this team and their lack of dedication and attention to coaching, details, etc.

Frankly, given Coach's sterling record, I'm definitely putting this one more on the players than the coach. Sure wish I knew the inside skinny as this was a very different KU team this year.

Self's act only flies with players who are bought in. Guys who know they're only going to be on campus for six months don't give a shit about the name on the front of their jerseys. Wiggins could have put up 40 against Stanford if he thought his draft stock depended on it. He knew he was going #1, and he was perfectly fine with ending the season healthy and getting paid...which is exactly what he should have been worried about.

What "act" are we talking about? It's pretty clear that hard work is what it takes to win in college. If you don't have those guys, you don't have them. We don't. Some programs do, and they succeed. But I don't think it has anything to do with Self's personality. The reason UK is succeeding right now with those kinds of players is that 1) their competition has been so bad that they can get away with just talent, and 2) the pressure/glory of going 40-0 has them focused in.

Now, if you're going to ask me if I think Self maybe targeted a few of the wrong guys, then yes, I do. It happens. You miss on some guys and some guys aren't what they were purported to be. I think we're getting back on track now, looking at what we have in Mason and Graham, two players who obviously give a shit about winning and putting it all out there.

And here we have more trolling without any basis in reality. Wiggins' two best games all year came at the very end of the season. He had 41 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 blocks and 5 steals against WVU in what was probably the best individual performance by a KU player this decade. He then followed that up with a dominant 30 point game against Marcus Smart and OSU in the first game of the Big 12 tournament.

and then, when the game REALLY mattered ... he put forth the 2nd biggest pussy performance in the entire tournament (2nd to only Jabari Parker)

Amazing that he could do that in order to cement his draft status only to completely disappear once a loss meant the season was over and he could focus on the NBA...

So your entire opinion of Wiggins' season is based entirely one game out of 35 he struggled against a team that knew how to effectively shut down Bill Self's offensive system. Sounds reasonable.

WTF?

Kentucky played 3 games against teams currently in the Sweet 16. They won those games by a total of 61 points. If Kansas had won against Wichita State, it would be 4 games by a total of 93 points.

All they did in the regular season was beat Kansas, North Carolina, Louisville, UCLA, Texas, Arkansas, Arkansas, Florida Florida, and Florida. 8 of those 10 games were by double digits. The closest game was 7.

That's not a function of bad competition.

...Wiggins' was a one and doner, everyone knew it, and when he had his chance to shine he didn't even think about showing up. He didn't even TRY to be aggressive. It was embarrassing. ALMOST as embarrassing as Jabari Parker's effort in the same tourney.
