I don't wanna sound like a Luddite, I'm basically a professional stat nerd at work, but they still have work to do to nail down defense, young players, and other things.

Even then, as much as I love to obsess over the monte carlo simulations, baseball is such a funny random game that the error bars on those things at the beginning of the year are huge. They are much better near the end of the season. PECOTA has a season standard deviation of about 10 freaking wins. This means that at the beginning of the year, if PECOTA says you will win 81 games, then you have a 2 in 3 chance of winning between 71 and 91 games, which is just such an absurd range that you can't draw any conclusions at all until there's only a few weeks left and the error gets lower.
