I am not sure everyone is correct about the NFL's current popularity in the UK. I have seen a number of UK articles stating the quick growth of popularity. They don't show any concrete numbers so I won't post them. This link claims the NFL is lying about it's popularity in the UK.
https://sports.vice.com/en_us/articl...its-popularity The link does have numbers which are interesting. Even if the NFL is manipulating the numbers, I do think there is enough there to be "milked". I am against the expansion, but on the subject of popularity, I think there is a lot of current and potential future growth. International soccer is growing in the US and the Premier League is making money on it in TV ratings. The NFL could easily do that and better, and these games are only going to help that. As has been mentioned, its not just money but ego. The ability to proclaim they are on two continents divided by an ocean. This article shows, as others have, that the NFL has big $ opportunities in Mexico, Canada, and Brazil. Them looking past these cities for London seems as much about bragging rights as anything else. https://sports.vice.com/en_us/articl...its-popularity |

The NFL won't go into Canada. The CFL is more popular than the NFL and there doesn't seem to be much cross contamination in the fanbases.
Mexico City and Monterrey would be good international expansion locations though. |

I just figured getting the UK and Europe on board with watching America Football would be more simple if we gave them a Chiefs game. Low scoring boring games with not a lot of action. Easy transition am I right?

I ****ing loathe the fact that the Chiefs are giving up one of the best home field advantages in sports for this goddamn shit.

if the super bowl can be in Indianapolis......it can be in KC.
There's not much difference. I'd love to see a comparison of hotel rooms. I was not that impressed with Indy.

I figured they got some overseas TV/advertising money that helps grow their pie.

Detroit had a 2014 London game, too. Neither one of the games is/was considered a "Home" game for them.

The "Designated Visitor" of the Euro games are 8-3.
Look at who didn't have to give up their home game in almost every matchup........... Giants New England (twice) Pittsburgh Dallas Denver In the mean time Tampa has been the home team twice and the Jags THREE times. |

I have always thought that the NFL would love to have a NFLA and an NFLE. Each league could play thier schedules on their own continent all the way through a Championship. Then each one of those team compete for a World Championship.

One, the stadium is indoors. More important, it's downtown. They put all the events right downtown and turned it into Super Bowl central. You didn't have to go anywhere else like you would in other cities. Indianapolis also hosts the Indy 500 every year, and the Final Four every 4-5 years. They are well equipped to host huge events. They lucked out with the weather that week though, no doubt about it. |

Clark Hunt approaches his quest for KC to host a Super Bowl like he does for his franchise to build towards playing in a Super Bowl apparently… which is half-assed.
Obviously the rolling roof concept is going to be one of the big first steps towards KC having a legit chance at hosting the Super Bowl. The price tag in 2006 that voters rejected to build the rolling roof was about $170 million. If the Hunt family would have paid for that cost entirely, combined with the about $100 million they put towards the rest of the Arrowhead renovations… that still would have been about HALF of what Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is paying (i.e. $400 million) for renovations to Sun Life Stadium… with the main goal of upgrading the stadium so it meets the NFL's criteria to host a future Super Bowl (after Miami hosted their last Super Bowl in 2010, the NFL said they would not return with the Super Bowl unless the city performed extensive renovations on Sun Life Stadium). Other than giving up a home game to play in London (which affects the fans/players more than the Hunt family directly)… what is Clark Hunt willing to pay personally to get the Super Bowl in KC? |
