Huge steal
If he'd have been in a pass first team he'd have a much less steep learning curve, though.

A draft pick's value is largely determined by how many 'productive' years you get out of him before FA. If you have to spend 2 years teaching him because he didn't learn anything in college, then it's going to drive his value down and rightly so because you're losing a couple of cheap, productive seasons.

It's why Shaq Mason went later than his talent says he should. He was an O-Lineman for an option team. He's going to take 2 years to get NFL ready, IMO. That makes him quite a bit less valuable than a guy with those skills that already knows how to pass protect.

Oh, I agree. There were better options there but who we ended up with wasn't bad.

I don't think these guys will bust or anything...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Minor durability concerns, missing two games as a junior (Oct. 2013) with an ankle injury and was slowed at the start of his senior season due to a subluxation of his right shoulder (Aug. 2014).

If anything, Matthews reminded me a lot of Strong this year. Matthews at Vandy was a guy with flypaper hands that did an amazing job of using his body to shield guys off and make catches in traffic. I didn't really like him before the 3rd round last season for that very reason. Matthews isn't as explosive as Conley but he's much more refined, a much better route runner and has elite hands. He's better than I thought he'd be, but he's still not what I would consider an explosive player.

Conley actually reminds me of a bit of a wayback player - Antonio Bryant. He's faster than Bryant but Bryant was really good at using his length and frame to get up and over guys to pick deep balls out of the air. Bryant was a headcase so he'd jake anything that wasn't a 9 route, but he had some serious ball skills. Add speed and coachability to that and you've got a solid weapon.

I can't think of a perfect comparison, really. A longer, slower Mike Wallace with a much better attitude?
He reminds me of a bigger, faster Stepone Paige.

For those of us who remember him, we know Paige was an absolute stud. If he's 80% of Paige, then it's a great pick.
