Why are you redirecting to basketball? Don't you want to talk about college football?

January 3rd, 2008 was one of the greatest sports nights in my life.

I have always wished my Missouri friends that one day they will get to experience the same.

A Cotton Bowl win over #13 ranked Oklahoma State is as close as many of them have got.

What a shame.

Yes, kU's one season with a winning conference record must have been a blast. When you consider that kU's conference record in the Big 12 (a bad conference) 2009-2015 was 4-48. You need to go back to the 2007 and 2008 seasons when kU miraculously did not suck to find 14 conference wins. From 2007 to present kU football is 15-53 in conference games is all you've got to look forward to, finishing second in the Big 12 North and losing to your hated rival must have seemed like a Super Bowl victory.

I'm glad you guys got to experience that one winning season in the last 20 years, even if it did end in an undeserved berth in a bowl game that was bought (on credit) and paid for (in installments).

At least after that one winning season in the last 20 years, KU football fans have a taste of what not being on of the least competitive football programs of all time might have been like.

Whining about KUs Orange Bowl is so eerily reminiscent of Oriole fans moaning about the Royals run last year. In the end did we care? Hell no, we just laughed at them.

Catch my drift?

The greatest sports night of your life was a barely beating the #9 team in the nation?

Yeah. Same thing exactly...

If the Royals had lost to the Orioles and paid their way into the rest of the playoffs.

But I'm glad you don't mind the greatest win in kU history having an asterisk by it.

Sad when the best football day of your life is when the Kansas school you follow from New York caps off a football season in which they were runners up in their division to their rival (because they lost to their rival) by beating a Virginia Tech team and finished 7th in the polls (third in the conference behind Mizzou and Oklahoma).

KU beat the #1 computer team in the BCS that Orange Bowl. The closest Mizzou ever came was beating #2 Kansas. Their biggest win in school history.

The year 2020:

"Daddy, what is the BCS?"
"Well, son. It was a system college football had in place to make sure the top two teams played each other at the end of the season."

"Oh... so two teams made it?"
"Well, no. They had ten teams play in different bowl games."

"Oh! So it was sort of a playoff! I get it!."
"Well, son. Not really. It was the top 2 teams, then 8 of the top of the rest of the teams."

"Now I get it. So the top 10 teams automatically made the BCS bowls?"
"Errr, um, not so fast. After the top 2, the rest of the teams could be literally anyone those bowls selected."

"But I'm sure those bowl games wanted the best of the rest, so as to keep the system prestigious, and all."
"No. Sadly, the whores taht run the bowls were swayed more by dollar signs than putting the best teams out there, so sadly some teams that didn't deserve to get in slid by."

"How embarrassing. I am sure the fans of those teams hide their faces when those unearned berths are mentioned, right?"
"Son... let me tell you about fans of a pilgrim bird..."
