Just had Q39

Might be the most overrated BBQ joint in the city. Overpriced as hell. 1 appetizer, 4 beers, 4 entrees . . . $130. Sheesh.

Sauce was way too sweet. Joe's KC has a sweet sauce, but this is on a whole different level of sweet. The meat was good, but it's not BETTER than other meat in the city.

I mean, it's not BAD, but I don't understand the hype at all.

EDIT: Forgot to add that their french fries were bland as hell. Most fast food places have better fries. Although, I did like their slightly spicy ketchup. Fries still absolutely pale in comparison to Joe's, though.

If I were going to try five restaurants outside of BBQ, what are the don't miss places in KC? Top 5 please.

I guess Stack is doing pretty good since they can afford to be closed on Monday.

Depends on what's the occasion? Casual I'd say Beer Kitchen. Date? Coopers Hawk. Breakfast? Yardhouse.

My favorites:

Port Fonda Mexican
Pig and Finch (get the espresso rubbed pork shoulder)
Tasso's Greek
Korma Sutra Indian (Overland Park location)
Elsa's Ethiopian
El Salvadoreņo (this place is actually amazing and a little hidden gem)
Local Pig (this is a meat-market-turned restaurant)
Tatsu's French
Majestic Steakhouse
Waldo Pizza
BRGR or Beer Kitchen for burgers

Tons of catfish joints here in the south. Is this place in the upper echelon of the catfish game?

I'd like to take the wife for a nice dinner date at least one night while I'm there. Coopers Hawk is something I'll look into. Thanks.
